The End of my 2017 MKZ

"You pulled out WAY TOO QUICKLY when you clearly didn't have the opportunity to."

Um, what the hell does that even mean?  You didn't have the chance to pull out, but you did.  Huh?  This is one of those guys that is just trying to stir the pot, for some reason.

But, as I said in a previous post, you took the hit in the back.  If you didn't, the person on your right might have been seriously injured from the truck.  Think of it as saving someone's life.

And can you put the guy's name up?  If I happen to find him on a beach, I could always accidentally kick sand up one of the legs of his wet bathing trunks when he's lying down. ?

Really, how long are you supposed to wait at a light when it turns green...in the D.C. area, people are honking their horns for you to go in anticipation of it turning green. There is no way the other light wasn't red and there is an expectation that other vehicles will be stopping at the light, not cruising through it to T bone you and drive off down the road.

That's a great video, I plan on installing front & rear cameras in my Z (Possibly the same cameras) when the weather warms up a bit.  t113007.gif

On another note, I am in possession of your center armrest. t2007.gif Since I'm keeping my car for a long time (Hopefully), the one part that always wears out is that armrest pad.  Now I have a BL interior armrest ready for when & if I need it.

Good planning. Take good care of the spare armrest too, keep it treated with a leather preservative etc. I had my old one saved from my 91 LSC SE, but in the garage and not treated since my wreck in 1997. The leather is pretty hard and rough compared to when I removed it in 1998. Untreated even nice leather will go bad, stored away out of the weather.

Glad a part of my car will serve another well. I could easily say my car after I tackled its gremlins had good parts going for it. I used a quality cleaning agent for the leather to keep it fresh.

The Aukey DR02 is a great deal for its price. I recommend getting OBDII Power switches and a dash cam hard wiring kit (though great for any dash cam really). This lets you choose when to turn on the camera (and leave it running as long you want) or off freely. It's also a good setup for Radar Detectors, as I use for my Uniden R3.

If you have the rear powered sunshade, the rear camera unit will still allow it to work without the shade getting stuck. It was a big reason why I went with Aukey for my MKZ. I tried many other rear units and they were too fat or odd shaped to work with the rear powered sunshade. Not to mention, one of the only dual cam packages that have a 1080p rear recording unit (most others are 720p and resolution is better over FPS in my opinion).

Great video. The person who left you that negative comment must be the other guys cousin trying to defend him with no reason.

Immediately my suspicion and what all others family and friends have believed too. Trolling is one thing, but I decided to take this step to represent why dash cams help you against false claims. Especially when they just go full on dumb denial mode. Online or in reality.

This special one is just spouting nonsense due to lack of understanding how traffic laws even work. He has never had a car and I doubt does even now, given his "blogging efforts". He is not a very bright individual when a few google efforts reveal much I need to know: Full real name, date of birth, and clear face shot along with life style which is how I learned such things. I mean dang, I don't do social media even though I have a leveled head about things yet this guy tries to stir the pot, butt naked with information! This is actually why I chose to blur his name out, and even then adept background hunters still could easily catch him.

At this point if he dares, retaliates with a threat of any kind, I got myself a easy defense charge with law enforcement. Being online won't save at all if you're figured out. So I'll just bask in that knowledgeable delight. If he chooses poor actions and choices like his "friend did", he will suffer consequences too.

This guy really is a poster example of your stereotype liberal-minded entitled millennial generation. Sad to say when I myself, am a part of his age bracket (I really relate better with Gen X minds).

He wanted attention, and well he's got it! I would pity him if he didn't go slinging turd words around like a angry monkey (his original comment was actually more foul than the one I put in the video that he must of attempted to edit).

I am so sorry this happened. I am so glad you walked away un-harmed. My wife and I were fortunate too. We had a 2017 Lincoln Continental Reserve, totaled by a clown texting in a Kia Soul.

I wish you well.

Thank you and likewise, sorry to hear your Continental was lost too, but best you walked away with no one harmed.

It's that distracted driving that is by far the worst thing about driving on US roads.

With March approaching, I'm looking forward to some 2020 vehicles to come out!

Does that get in the way of the rear sunshade? That's the only reason I haven't purchase a rear one yet.

Precise reason why I chose this dual camera: The powered rear sunshade will have enough clearance to function. A itty bit may rub against the camera as the shade goes up, but does not interrupt function or get stuck when retracting down. Rear camera unit records in 1080p as well. You can have the shade up while the camera still sees everything just fine.

I have taken my vehicle surveillance to the next level: Razo d'Action 360 Camera!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07M8P8Q2Y?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Pricy for sure, but I really like this unit. I still use the Aukey DR02 since those cameras are good for showing vehicles in distance. But the Razo 360 camera comes into play for side views and potentially defense against car vandals. It's fun to use for other things beyond just dash/parking surveillance. The 4k resolution is really nice too.

Hey @Zalvern do the A-pillar covers just pop off? I want to route the camera cables underneath. ?

No need to pop them off.  You can just push the cables behind the covers.  There is enough give in them to jam in the wires.  Plenty of vids on Youboob.

Right.  Just lift up the top edge slightly and push the cable under.  These break very easily if you try to take them off completely.

This is the part I'm trying to hide, doesn't seem to be room to stuff the wire in.

Run the wire up the A-pillar, not across the dash top like that.  It gets tucked under the door weatherstripping, the in towards the fuse panel.  I have no wires showing in mine except for the short section that runs from the headliner to the cam.  Even that is hardly noticeable since it runs alongside the rain sensor/camera box.

I went up and over and down on the passenger side.  Stuck the wire in thru the panel on the glove box side.  Behind the glove box and down behind plastic trim and into the outlet.  I'll do a splice into the outlet from behind the panel sometime.  It's not at the top of my list of things to do right now.

1.thumb.jpg.20de9c802dbd502ce6110cc77a67180a.jpg

Jam it under these pieces.

2.thumb.jpg.86d7c2f33d2e23581376998443d6f234.jpg

Wrap it under the corner and down the dash board.

3.thumb.jpg.844ef1e565684b97b21cdd63cc203350.jpg

Remove the panel on side of glove box.  I shove wire way back there so when I put that panel back on, the clips wouldn't damage the wire.

4.thumb.jpg.243c0208cdc530ef5708dac755d32ddd.jpg

Just cram wire up anywhere behind the glove box and stick behind plastic molding.

5.thumb.jpg.86c778f892112b6df51357e1b015c88b.jpg

This was a PIA cause I didn't want to remove the molding.  If memory serves, this is where I started so as to not totally remove that plastic.  Any extra wire is up behind the glove box.

6.thumb.jpg.dab6645775604a102a26c06b2b0edfe3.jpg

Should take you about 5 minutes.

OK got it now, I needed to come down the outside of the A-pillar not the inside. The rear cam cable is fat and was a bitch to shove under the trim. I haven't bothered to get it under the back door sill and rear quarter trim but nobody is ever back there anyway.

I never even considered running it on the driver side.  Things move under the dash and there are plenty of pinch points.  Besides that, the steering wheel always gets in the way.  And the fuse box isn't exactly in a prime area for access.

My cables were not that thick.   Very easy to put behind any trim.  I ran mine down the windshield side trim and then under the dash trim.  I was thinking about the door side but it could get pinched.

I looked at my car again and it seems like there shouldn't be a problem running the wire above the door.  The rubber stripping moves so you have access to the trim.  There seems to be plenty of room for wires under that trim.  The only obstacle I see is the trim were the seatbelt attaches.  That seems very secure but I'm sure with patience you could move it enough to get wire under it.  From there, the trim to the back window seems accessible.

I'll have to try that for the rear cam. Not that I want to undo what I did yesterday since my fingers are still sore...

Know how that feels.  Like when I played my guitar for the first time in 3 years.  OUCH!

Or after putting together your computer water cooling loop. My fingers were so sore for several days. Then I had to pull it all apart because the water block I received was defective and by the time I got it back I had also received my gpu block. So it all got redone.

I started with intentions to do a custom loop, so I bought an Asus Maximus Formula board. Learned of the 360 Ryujin AIO and thus dropped a custom loop plan for the ROG theme (decided to keep the Formula board regardless even if you do not water cool it).

PC building is my other tinkering hobby. Mostly keep it a black/white theme but here is an gradient rainbow mode with a picture below. One RGB part led to another...hah! The Phanteks Eclipse P600S case is my favorite to date.

In other news, I may return to having a 3.0 Engine again! But it very well may be the Aviator for I could appreciate having more space given my travel lifestyle, and PHEV is something I can benefit from (not a fan of pure electric). I await to hear more on MKZ 2020 MY ordering information though. Grand Touring Aviator isn't open for ordering yet.

As a retired state Trooper you can imagine how ticked I am at seeing this!!!  My blood boils when these morons just drive off like that.  He would NOT have wanted me putting the cuffs on him when we took him down!!!

I just took delivery (4 weeks ago today) I my 2019 MKZ RI - and I love it.  I haven't yet installed the dash cam - a little pride in how pretty this is over my previous bow tie car.  But I think that this may be the day.  I know how valuable the dash cam is for civilians and Troopers.  I ALWAYS had mine on.  A perp that tried to run from me fell face first into the gravel when his pants fell off his butt.  Then he thought he could file a complain of "police brutality" against me.  That's fine - filing a false report was just one more felony change!  Anyway, I think Lincoln has a OEM dash cam that the dealer can install.  I may stop there on y way to Kiwanis this morning.

Like everyone else I am happy you were NOT PHYSICALLY hurt - but I am saddened at the rest of the pain you have to endure now.  Stay safe!!

Ed
