So I've been reading a lot of post lately and im confused about the DRL's for the 2013 MKZ. Are these just the fog lights or the headlights as well.

I've seen some cars with just the LED fog lights turned on during the day and this is what I want on my vehicle. Any suggestions? Thank you

I have a 2014 and the LEDs (that double as the yellow turn signals) are the DRLs. They come on when the car is in gear day and night.

Since you can't tell any other way when I see a MKz with no DRLs I know it's a 2013.

There's been a lot of talk about the ability of the dealer to turn then on but I don't know if it's possible.

On my 2013 Z-brid, the front LED Signature Lamps (the white LED strip underneath the amber LED turn signals) are used as the DRLs.  When you activate the turn signals, the DRL on that side shuts off so as to not wash out the signal. Pretty cool.  Anyway, I just got my DRLs activated a week or so ago and it cost me $50.00 at my local Ford dealership.  I am sure my selling Lincoln dealer would have done if for free, but that dealership is 2.5 hours away.  :)  And before anyone asks, no, my Z-brid is NOT a fleet vehicle.  :)

My dealer got mine to work on my 13 hybrid.. But I was informed that my car was a fleet car and that's why they were able to turn them on... I still don't understand what a fleet car is

From Google:

Fleet vehicles are groups of motor vehicles owned or leased by a business, government agency or other organization rather than by an individual or family. Typical examples are vehicles operated by car rental companies, taxicab companies, public utilities, public bus companies, and police departments.

Hello everyone just joined today and the question of the DRL's on a 2013 MKZ I just purchased was main reason for joining. By reading the previous post I now see the 2013 does not have true DRL's. Is there a way for the owner to turn the DRL's on without paying the dealer? Obviously there is.

The 2013 & 2014 come in without the DRL turned on from the factory (why I do not know) but I believe it is only setable from the dealer....

Not if you have the Technology Package.  See this post.

I too was confused about DRL's and on my spec sheet with the correct vin# it shows DRL's present, but then i noticed in the forum if one goes to the lighting section and then the sub menu that person was able to

turn on/turn off DRL's but i dont have that in my submenu and so i went to a lincoln dealer and they connected the car via computer thru port below the drivers side and indicated they were activated.

Yesterday i called lincoln and their response was i do have the DRL's on (below the lower fender) and they come on all the time and when in the A position and they only come on when the car is in motion.

I had a 2014 Fusion before my 2013 MKZ. That's what can happen when you get rear-ended by some jerk playing with his cell phone instead of paying attention. Anyway, I saw an article there was a dealer in Cally that would reprogram the car's computer for $59 to get the Fusion's lights on. (The dealer I bought it from refused to do it even tho the Monroney said the car had DRLs. Another reason why I have MKZ now.) Supposedly, the DRLs are ready to go but Ford won't activate them on base models.

Depends on your dealer.  I had a 2013 MKZ (now have a 2017 MKZ).  My local dealer turned on the DRL's for me at no charge sometime in the summer of 2013.  I was the first one that had asked for it at my dealer and it took them a few hours to figure out how to do it.   Once they found the right command in the computer to do it, voila....    FWIW, they did not call them DRL at the time but maybe safety lights or something like that.  It is why it took them a while to find the right command.  It has since become relatively common knowledge.

2013 Lincoln MKZ 2.0 Ecoboost.  I have the THX sound, 19" wheels and panoramic roof. I'm not sure what package # that is.  Not a fleet vehicle.

I just got my lower LED's activated, it took 3 tries in total. I tried twice with the Astro Lincoln in Pensacola Florida but they said it couldn't be done.  The first time I told the service guy (who was very professional btw) that I wanted the DRL's activated and pointed to the lower LED's. He said the service tech couldn't find it in the computer and it wasn't an option for my model.  The next time I told him to tell the service rep to check the Daytime Driving Safety menu but once again he said the service tech could not find the option to enable.

I relocated a couple of weeks ago to Marietta GA and I had to take my car in for a gas smell (it turned out to be a leaking fuel pump).  I asked the service manager at Pugmire Lincoln of Marietta to activate the lower LEDs and told him it should be in the Daytime Driving Safety menu.  Sure enough they did it.  Apparently they already knew how to do it, because he said they normally charge $60 to activate the DRLs.

The lower LED's (signature LED) are on only in drive and are on even if the headlight knob is turned to the off position (circle).

So to summarize, 2013 MKZ lower LED's can definitely be enabled even if your car is NOT a hybrid.  But it all comes down to how knowledgeable the service tech is.   Here's a pic of my car and the service receipt.  As you can see the parking lights are not on but the lower LED's are.
