No audio and volume control after HD ACM upgrade

Hello I have a 2017 Lincoln MKZ 3.0t AWD with the 11 speaker audio system. My goal is to add HD radio to my 11 speaker setup. MY original ACM part is HP5t-18D818-BM and I tried installing HP5T-18D818-GD with HD radio but it has to be from a Revel system. I installed it, enabled the HD radio setting in the APIM, and changed all the ACM config to my original.

The result is that it connects and finds HD station but absolutely no audio output through the speakers and the volume knob does nothing. I also noticed that when I try to change the sound eq settings, it goes haywire and resets back to the middle. It is also jumping around in the speed volume thing area.  I reconnected the original ACM and it works normal again.

Is it possible to Get HD radio on an 11 speaker setup?  Is there a daughter board that I can remove and add to my working ACM?

The Revel system ACM sends the audio signal to an amplifier over a blue USB cable and controls the amplifier volume over the CAN signals.

The MKZ without Revel appears to have an internal amplifier in the ACM for mids/tweeters and separate amplifier for the two subs.

I don't think the Revel system ACM is going to work for you because of the lack of amplification. One possible solution might be an iDatalink Maestro AR. I believe it connects to iDatalink-compatible Arc Audio, Audison and Kenwood amplifiers to the Revel System ACM using a USB data cable. You'd have to purchase the Maestro AR and an amplifier... but I'd call them first and explain your custom setup.

Interesting, my ACM only has the 3 antenna ports( white, black and mustard yellow) and two larger connectors with multiple pins. It's a direct plugin. The only USB ports I saw was on the back of the APIM, that I pulled as I didn't know that the ACM was in the trunk. The black one is used and a gray is not used. Thanks, I'll look up the iDatalink to see what's up.

This is a picture of a Revel 14 speaker system. I believe that's the ACM behind the amp. Notice on the right the blue USB cable for digital audio that goes to the other side of the Revel amp. If your HD ACM doesn't have that USB plug, then it's probably not from a  MKZ Revel system.

If it's like the Sony systems on the Fusion, the HD ACM you have might have come out of one that the signal is Digital... I had the same issue a while ago, ended up sending it back for HD unit that was Analog.  Then it worked...

Yes, if there is an analog unit... that would be the one you need.

Thanks for the responses. Looking at the ebay pictures and yes, it has the usb port ?. So completely useless ACM. Do you have a part number of this Analog ACM that may work on my MKZ? The thing is that it seems that the Fusion ACM has a built in CD player but that shouldn't matter as I can probably disable it via forscan.  I'll probably end up opening it up to see what's inside. I wish that there was something I could swap in between them to make this work.

Funny is I took apart the entire HVAC and radio to notice that there isn't an acm behind there. I then saw that same picture above and recognized the mounting bracket on the ford part catalogs. Ended up taking hours to do a job that only a few minutes. ?

As far as I know... all the ACM's should have a CD drive... unless F/L got a clue and dropped it in the 2020/2021's  ?

All the lincoln ACMs I see are in the back of the car and have the hole taped up. The CD's are a separate unit in the front of the vehicle.

The one in the back would be the amp.... AFAIK

The transistors that are pressed against the heatsink with thermal paste between are for the amp. I'm wondering if that large missing chip is what controls the HD Radio or is it something else.

Hmm... maybe it's a part of the amp.... signal processor or something like it....

A C M, Audio Control Module , in the Fords (and I'm assuming the Lincolns) it is the part that you see with the CD drive in it under the APIM ....  BUT, being that one of the pics you put up mentions HD Radio... but it also has a sticker over the part #... not sure why

@TomVI might look into getting the 2016 ACM and try again. They have the 11 speaker audio system and and HD Radio option. I don't know if the wiring matches up though but the connectors look to match except for one thing. MY2017 has 3 antenna plugs. Mustard, Black and White while the MY2016 has Only the black and mustard. I know that the mustard is the satellite so I'm guessing that Black in antenna. What is the White? Is it that dual FM transmitter that I read about the 2017 fusion getting?

My wiring diagram manual only covers 2019 MKZ and Fusion.

I think there are two audio unit antenna options, if the car has a mast or a in rear glass antenna and the third is for Satellite .

The extra chip in the Revel ACM is probably an external digital radio coprocessor for HD Radio. I can't fully read the NPX part numbers in your pictures, but if you post them I can research.

You are correct on both of them. For the antenna, I could only find information about when Ford added it to the 2017 Escape and Fusion. It switches between the Rear glass and other antenna to get the best signal.

As for the chip, I took a better picture and it is for sure has do do with the HD Radio.

I've decided to just use a Sony DSP which will require running new wires to the front tweeters and a new center rear channel. I finally found a Sony DSP with a cut harness so I purchased a rear center channel and a t-harness to add a sub with a line out converter that I'll repurpose for my needs. The other harness that was labeled for my job was $30 more and came with less parts (parts which I'll use for a dashcam with backup battery install).

Ok I found this thread by looking for a MKZ ACM.

My 2013 MKZ AMC is not working from what I googled with the symptoms. I have no audio what so ever and everything points to the ACM and all the ones I found include the cd player. Well I thought it was like every other ford. Then I found a CD player for a MKZ and it looks nothing other ford ACMs.

But you guys are saying it's in the trunk? I have HD radio if that matters but not the THX sound.

Thanks

Steven

Hi Steven. Are you stating that you have heard the CD player is in the trunk of a 2013 MKZ?  That information is not correct, it is located in the dashboard.

Good luck.

No, I know the CD player is behind the dash.

I was stating I think I need a new ACM and most of the ford ACMs I've see are built together with the CD player. So I just found this thread and see the ACM is in the trunk. I'm just wanting to conformation from you guys.

I just also found this thread

They say the amp fixed the problem. So might be the amp instead.
