Devin's 2014 MKZ

Hi all,

I wanted to introduce myself here, as I just picked up a 2014 cpo'd MKZ a few weeks ago. It is currently 1 of 2 Lincolns I own, the other being a 2006 LS V8 Sport. I owned a 2001 LS as well years ago.

I bought this car to be a comfy, classy and reliable daily, as the LS receives a lot of modifications and is generally more of a needy car. I like to document everything I do with my vehicles, so I will continue to do so here with the MKZ. Looking forward to meeting you all, and becoming part of the MKZ community.

Details on the car:

Sterling Grey / Charcoal

2014 MKZ 3.7 awd

Preferred, Tech Pkg, and Pano Roof

25k miles

Charcoal gray 19's

So far I love the power delivery of the 3.7, and I have pleasantly surprised with how stiff the car becomes in suspension and steering in 'S' mode. The looks/styling of the car are fantastic, and so far I am a happy owner!

I need to take some better pics, but here are two for now.

First on the to do list will be window tint, and I am going to attempt the stubby antenna. Would also like to give it a fresh detail, as the dealer just did a general clean before delivery.

Coming up on the first month of ownership, and still enjoying it! Work finally slowed down, so we had some time to take care of the first couple of changes on the car, as well as document them. I went ahead and took advantage of the weather/sunset tonight to snap a few better images.

This week the car received:

1) 20% tint all around (no front windshield)

2) Removed rear emblems

3) Installed stubby antenna, from Cravenspeed.com

Let me know what you think!

Installed the Steeda RSB last night - 45min or so and I was back on the road. So far we really like the way it has sharped the handling on the car. I wrote a formal write-up in the chassis forum

RSB write-up here

Also, while running around today, I could not resist taking a shot of the mkz with some fairly modern architecture/design in the background. Also including on of her older sister too. (My LS)

Yeah I would like something bigger ideally (I would love to own a wagon again) but I also wouldn't mind a 3.0t MKZ if prices come down some more. Either way, I still love this car, so I am not dying to get rid of it.

,

Last night we flirted with Forscan in an effort to change my DRL's from dedicated (white) to Turns (Amber). That was unsuccesful, however, we did change the following:

1 - Added AWD gauge to cluster menu

2 - Increased HSW temp to 94*

3 - Removed courtesy honk when key goes out of range from running car.

4 - Removed seat belt chimes for both seats

In addition, I was able to find a vin on cars.com of  few mkz's that have the summer handling package. Going to look into as-built data and compare these cars to mine, to see if I can pinpoint the EPAS and CCD settings and move them to my car.

Car now is running Conti DWS 06's, and I love them. The Uniroyal tigerpaws were down right dangeorus in the snow. Loving the car now and wish it would snow more! :P (Never thought i'd say such a thing).

In other news, i did a cabin air filter swap, gave her a fresh wash, and ordered an aFe intake kit from the Ford Edge/Explorer. I am going to see if I can get that to work on the MKZ, as the motors are pretty similar. Write-up/experience to follow here when I can find some time.

Update - aFe's 3.5L (edge/Explorer) Intake kit, "fits" the MKZ 3.7L!

While subjective, and probably not what Lincoln intended with this car, the sound is incredible. I love it, and have even received some compliments from a few friends. Only when under medium + is the intake audible. Light throttle sounds throatier and deeper, at WOT, is is loud, and it really screams near redline. Not going to make any claims for power increase, but it feels slightly more responsive in mid range. The mustangs seem to show gains on dynos with just intakes, I would imagine this car to be similar, again no claims here. The fun factor has increased substantially for me. and I am happy with the sound.

Once tax season subsides, I will spend some time making a custom heatshield. The Edge kit is designed to work with the bottom section of the oem airbox. While the engine bay arrangement is similar between Edge/MKZ, the airbox is different, so the supplied cover was not used from the kit. I was able to retain the OEM air ducting section of the intake, and the rest of the kit bolted up fine. I need to extend the PCV hose so that I can reinstall the engine cover. Other than that, install was straight forward and took about 20min taking my time. The heat shield will need to provide some sort of mounting surface as the intake is currently "Floating" in the engine bay without the airbox to rest on. I have temporarily secured it with ties to keep it in place.

Two pics for now, I will start to fab up a homemade heat shield in the upcoming weeks.

Took her in for service today at Lincoln for:

- Oil Change

- SW recall

- Trans Diagnostics (having rough 1-2, 2-3 shifts, and really chuggy parading issues. S.A. suspects valve body, as another MKZ recently had one done. I should know more tomorrow he said.

Got a MKX loaner to cruise around with for the time being, will probably drive the LS though, now that Chicago has gotten some nicer weather.

Update (wow last time I was in here was in April!) The car is aging very well, and still loving how it drives. I have since removed the trans mount (because it went in for service) so if anyone is interested that is still for sale and will fi the 32.7tt/3.0tt/3.7 mkz and mkx. PM an offer ill let it go for cheap.

Couple things to note:

The 4 small panels that surround the pano roof are all "peeling" there is a very clear deterioration forming on each panel. It looks like peeling window tint or failing paint. Anyone successfully gone through Lincoln for this?

The MKZ just rolled over 53k so I took it in for its next scheduled oil change. I noticed in the past few days, a coolant smell and the reservoir was really low (below min line) last night. Dealer just called and said the water pump needs to be replaced. Anyone else seen this on the 3.7? Apparently they need to pull the timing cover so its a big job.

Also, I am about due for brakes - anything I need to know for doing the rear pads/rotors in terms of dealing with the ERPB? About to order parts and double check some DIY's.

I'm in the process of having the panels replaced on my 2014 with panoramic roof (assuming we're talking about the same panels, 1 on each side of the rear window, and 1 above the front windshield).

I thought I might like the matte black look of the panels on my Tuxedo Black MKZ once all the "coating" peeled off, but they didn't look good at all.

I took it to the dealer during the last week of my factory warranty, and it's covered and they ordered the new panels. The extended CPO warranty wouldn't have covered it since interior and exterior trim, moldings, etc. are excluded.

Unfortunately, the new front panel arrived cracked and they're still waiting on a replacement, but they replaced both back panels and they look beautiful.
