Lost Lock and Unlock Feature

Recommended Posts

I guess there's different strokes for different folks. I always use the "touch the ridges" routine. I do it as I close the door and walk away and it's never failed on me.

I know what you mean about getting in/out of a car. I had SUV's for the last few years. My last one was a Lincoln 2013 MKX. It's much easier stepping out of a MKX than trying to pull yourself to your feet when exiting a lower profile car.

And to stay on subject, I didn't have any problems with the MKX door handle lock/unlock.

I've noticed that this intelligent access system seems to be more prone to interference from my cell phone then other systems I've used. I've experienced it not working (grab the handle, it doesn't unlock.. or press the ridges and it doesn't lock), but it's always been because my keys have been in the same pocket as my phone. Seems to start working again when I put my telephone in my other pocket, wait 5 seconds and then try again..

That's an interesting idea. I don't have my keys/fob and cell phone in the same pocket. However, the next time it doesn't lock by touching the door handle, then I will try moving my cell phone farther away from the fob and see if that works. I hope it's that simple and works.

Thanks for the post.

Seems to be a issue we are all having, my 2016 MKZ started doing that last week after having the car four months. Works fine with the key fob, but couldn't get it to lock with my finger on the door handle. Now this week its working fine. Something is up if we all are having the same issue.

I didn't have my phone in my pocket with the key, so that was not the issue.

For what it's worth, mine still work like they did from day 1.  My only current "issue" is my passenger front door red LED lock light is not working.  Oh well.  :)

I have been having occasional issues locking by putting my finger on the door handle. It's not very often so not really an issue.

Mine works occasionally (2014), too intermittent to use it as my main means of entry.  One fob doesn't unlock on approach reliably, the other is perfect.  I'll address this with the dealer after a few more months (see if anything else goes wrong).

Another reason is that I like to lock with the fob is that the red door LED is not bright enough in daylight, and I don't trust that it was locked.   At night, or out of direct sunlight, no issue.

My 2013 MKZ ridges always worked, but I would occasionally use the fob just to be sure.  As you said, that led was not always visible in bright light.    Just traded in my 2013 MKZ for a 2017 MKZ.  The 2017 now has a small audible tone (not the horn, but just a tone) when the doors lock with the ridges.  That is the way it should have been...

Ah, nice, yes, that was a good upgrade!

I had a flat tire in NJ this evening.  Sidewall is ruined.  Finding one of these 18" tires locally doesn't seem likely, looks like I'm running four hours back to Maryland on my mini-spare....

I know you want this to work but let me tell you what I do. First, there are 3 ways to lock the car. 1. the remote fob lock button, 2. the door handle sensor, 3. the lock button on the inside of door. I originally used the fob, but found myself with the fob in my pocket to dig for as it does not need to be out of pocket when driving so thus is in pocket when getting out of car. So I started using the handle to lock it. This seems high tech/ tricky but I got tired of getting of the way of the door then stepping back up to it and having to pay attention to the lock action and red LED. SO, after reading another post of a use I started just as I swing my legs out the driver door opening to exiting the car I reach up and hit the lock button on the inside door panel. You hear it lock, dont have to turn back to affirm LED is on, dont have to dig for FOB, etc. I do use the sensor when coming up to car to unlock it and it never fails.

Amendment to my post above. I think a 4th way to lock the car is to touch the 2 bottom outside keypad numbers at same time. If you are set on reaching back to the exterior door and just want a solution this may be the one to use.I know this does not fix the root issue for you, but like kids, spouses, boss's, etc. sometimes it is not worth the fight if there is another solution. I also have heard you can leave the FOB inside the car if you lock it this way.

Virtually every time, it never fails,  I lock my car using the door handle, I can hear the locks physically engaging and the running lights turn off.

Did anyone ever get an answer on this? my '15 randomly doesn't work for a day then starts working again. I find this super frustrating and of course it works when I go to the dealership.

Hello, new 2014 owner here. Certified, 30,000 miles. What is it with this unlock feature - It's driving me nuts. Sometimes I can walk up to the car and use the handle, sometimes it won't budge. I'm trying to find the pattern but seems like this thread proves it's random. This issue and seemingly random chimes from proximity sensors (for no apparent reason) are frustrating.

Make sure when you grab the handle to unlock the door that you don't cover

the open slots on the handles which is use to lock the door.

Also make sure a cell phone is not close to the fob, this can block the signal,

It has happen to me.
