New Owner - 2017 MKZ 3.0 AWD

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I recently traded a 2017 MKC for the 2017 MKZ with about 15K miles. I drove a MKZ FWD 3.0 as a service loaner and that was all it took. I gave up a few options on my trade in, but got the drivers package, which I really like, and of course the 3.0TT.

Always good to see more 3.0 owners arise. Welcome!

Definitely is it worth getting Driver's Package for the full experience! May it serve you well.

Congrats, you'll never get tired of the 3.0 with Drivers Package, I sure haven't yet.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome and congrats on the trade, I hope you love the car for a long time.

I'm still surfing the internet occasionally for a blue AWD TT. I haven't yet seen one with the Driver's Package and a white interior, except one used 2017 in GA recently. What does that Driver's Package do in fine details mechanically etc? I have not driven one yet, just read and heard the few reviews by others online. I have a black label 2018 here locally that my dealer wants me to come try out. It has everything but that package of course. I might have to decide between the more common versions without the package. Very few cars people chose to pay for that, given the number of chrome grilles I have seen.

You won't find one with the Driver's Sport Package and white interior because that combination wasn't offered.  The only interior available with the Sport Package was Ebony with white accents and white piping.

2017 Driver's Sport Package:

Quote

Driver’s Package: aluminum brake and accelerator pedal covers, Light Magnetic-painted
upper grille, Ebony-painted brake calipers, Dynamic Torque Vectoring, sport-tuned  suspension, 19" satin finish 10-spoke machined aluminum wheels with premium painted  pockets, carbon-fiber interior trim, Ebony leather-trimmed seats with Touring White accents, and multicontour front seats with Active Motion (requires 3.0-liter GTDI V6 AWD;  available Summer 2016)

And they are rare.  I've never seen another one around here in the almost 2 years that I have mine.

Well thanks, that explains it, though that is dumb. But I'm used to Ford doing such dumb things, so it isn't a surprise.

I have a 92 Mark VII that I'm slowly working on, and a few years back I discovered the left door trim has a space for a memory seat switch to bolt into. I have the switch for it now, a NOS part that came on Continentals of the same chassis. They obviously never made a Mark VII with a memory seat, but the feature was on some Continentals. So I'll fix that oversight along the way when I do some rewiring. That's a relatively easy modification. The newer cars have way too many integrated electrical parts and systems to retrofit anything after purchase. You basically have to live with what it comes with.

Hi Art. You haven't seen another Drivers Sport Package equipped MKZ yet because you haven't seen mine! 😛😀

Well, if I do see another one, I'll assume it's you.😋

Yes- hard to find. I really only cared about the driver's package and didn't need/want stuff like the technology package or sunroof when I was looking for one to buy. I ended up to driving to a dealer 2 hours away for a used 2017 so I could get one with the Driver's Package plus Climate package (and I live in the Washington D.C. so it isn't like there aren't plenty of car dealerships). The next closest with the DP meant a drive up to Pennsylvania near Philly. The one I purchased had been sitting there for awhile. I am guessing that the typical Lincoln demographic would much rather have one with Technology, Sunroof, and all the other gadgets, rather than the DP. Here is a link with the available 2017 options. Driver's package is only offered on the Reserve

I shopped for a long time to get a deal on my MKZ. My main options I wanted on a MKZ was: a reserve, 3.0, drivers pkg, and climate pkg. I had a 2017 MKC reserve that was loaded, but I had a hard time finding a dealer that would get me close to an even trade. I gave up a panoramic roof, technology pkg, and upgraded sound system to get the MKZ. The MKZ also had an accident record, but can't see where any paint work was done. Overall, I am very happy with my trade.

Prior to the MKC, I had a Mustang GT, so the MKZ 3.0 is a great compromise to get performance and AWD.

Good trade then Scott, you found the one that fit the goals. I still wonder about the 3.0 engine TSB, if it's every 2017 or just some. I found two 17's south of me with plenty of miles on them, I'm not ready to contact anyone to ask how the TSB could work for a used purchase, I still have lots of estate work to do, and my work vehicle rebuild. I know more about what to look for now, thanks to you guys here for the details of the driver's package etc.

If you're referring to this TSB, it's only the cars with those build dates.  We've not seen or heard of any problems in later builds.  I certainly haven't had the issue with my 2017.

WRT your other concern, as long as the vehicle is still under warranty, the TSB will be applied at no charge to you.

My build date was 11/16, so hopefully I will not have this issue.

Thanks for the link to the main description of the TSB, that helps. Curious too, do you know if the correction was a new head design etc, or an assembly repair or change?

The defective heads get replaced.  This has been discussed in the forums by owners who had the work done.  Here's one thread.  You can find others by suing the 'Search' function, keyword- "heads."
