I have a new lincoln mkz. So I am new to the care. However, it would seem my lights do not function correctly. The only time my led lights (running lights) are lit is when the headlights or parking lights are on. I thought they were suppose to be lit all the time like BMW and Audis.

How does your running lights work? Are they the same as mine?

The "Signature LED Lamps" do come on when the Light switch is in Parking or Headlight mode.

But the "Signature LED Lamps" are OFF in AutoLamp mode UNTIL it gets dark out and the headlights come on.

The manual confirms that they are supposed to be on all the time, except when the Light switch is in the OFF position.

The manual makes perfect sense.

So, there is a mistake in the programming of the car.

And by the way, the Headlights will only move with the steering wheel in the AutoLamp mode.

My Ford dealer attempted to enable my DRLs the other day.  They found the section in the computer to do the procedure, but the computer refused to enable the DRLs.  Hmmm.

My Lincoln dealer was able to get them going on my 2013 MKZ - although the service tech said something about they were called DDS (Daytime Driving Safety - or something like that) Lights in the computer.   In reading the forums, it looks like some dealers charge to activate them, some don't.  Mine did not.

Just had oil change and some warrenty work done on my 2013 MKZ.  Also asked dealer to activate The DLR's. He came back with a standard Ford answer that it can not be done.  I printed out a copy of this thread.  His response is that the reason Ken Z's car could have its DLR's activated is that it must be a Fleet car that he purchased used. My dealer asked if I could get KenZ's VIN number so he could confirm the build  and determine if it was a Fleet car and what it might have that allowed the enabling of the DLR's.  I have the 102A package which includes the Signature Lamps.  Therefore, I believe they should be able to enable the DLR's.

Ken Z you appear to be the only one on this thread who has had success with getting the dealer to turn on your DLR's. Therefore, I was wondering if you could pass on your VIN or any othe rinflormation that I could bring to my dealer to enlighten him to the ways of turning on DLR's

I sent you my VIN as a private message.   The car was purchased new (ordered in late March 2013, delivered in mid-May 2013) with pretty much every available option at the time.

Roger,

My dealer tried the number that you gave me and it was not South Bay. Would (310) 598-1908 be a better number ( I Googled it)?

Do you have a name of the technician who did the programming.  Looks like you have the hybrid; what's your equipment group?  I have the 2.0L with equipment group 102A which includes the signature lamps.

I know of two people with hybrids that have had DRL's added,  Has anyone with gas (which engine) and the 102A equipment group had DRL's added by the dealer?   My dealer is saying that some cars can have DRL's added and some can not (even if they have the signature lamps), but he can not explain why.

I have the 2014 mkz with package 203A and it says quite clearly in the manual that one can turn on/off DRL's and turn on/off HD lamps moving with the steering wheel, however I could not find that in the cluster

switches on the left. So I took the car into the dealer and they hooked up a computer as I WAS THERE and the DRL's are enabled all the time which are the signature lamps and this is straight from technical services at Lincoln since a case number was started for me and so the information in the manual about these two on/off are wrong. My signature lamps come on no matter what position the dial is in.

What also was confusing to me that you can see the DRL's turned on the Ford Fusion which I owned previously, but the MKZ 2014 is different as mentioned above.

The Headlamps which move with the steering wheel are only functional when in the auto position.

In my 2014 3.7L with the 102A package, my Daytime Running Lights are true DRL. That is, they are on all the time and there is no option to turn them off or on. When I go to Settings, Vehicle, Lighting, the only setting available is headlight delay.

Perhaps with other packages it's configureable or, the manual is wrong.

Have you ever had version/package of the MKZ (assuming it is equiped with the signature lights) where you have been unable to turn the DRL's on?  My dealer says that there are some cars that can have them turned on and some that can not.  I am puzzle why that could be the case.

Would you be willing to share with my dealer how to turn on the lights?

I have never ran into a problem turning on DRL's on an MKZ.  An MKT gave me fits one time, but I learned that it was because the vehicle had HID's and could only turn DRLS for the fog lamps (we were trying to turn the headlamps on for them.)

The only reason I can think of, that it cannot be turned on, is that you don't have the led lamp below the headlights.  If that is optional, that is what lights up for the DRLs.  They are white most of the time, then turn yellow and flash when your turn signals are on.

I doubt your dealer is going to look kindly to some know-it-all calling them and telling them how to do their job.  I don't feel comfortable with that.

I do have the signature lamps with the 102A package and the 2.0L engine.  There are two sets of lights on each side below the head lights; the bottom set is white and the top set is amber when the flashers are on.  The white lights are on all of the time.

I will relay to my service guy that an anonymous service rep. mentioned that he has not run across any MKZ that he can ot turn on the DRL's.

The white lights are on all of the time.

The white lights are your DRL's... what are you asking him to "turn-on"? It sounds like they are already on...

I didn't know that they only came on while the car was in gear. But tried it and it is true.

2013 Lincoln MKZ 2.0 Ecoboost.  I have the THX sound, 19" wheels and panoramic roof. I'm not sure what package # that is.

I just got my lower LED's activated, it took 3 tries in total. I tried twice with the Astro Lincoln in Pensacola Florida but they said it couldn't be done.  The first time I told the service guy (who was very professional btw) that I wanted the DRL's activated and pointed to the lower LED's. He said the service tech couldn't find it in the computer and it wasn't an option for my model.  The next time I told him to tell the service rep to check the Daytime Driving Safety menu but once again he said the service tech could not find the option to enable.

I relocated a couple of weeks ago to Marietta GA and I had to take my car in for a gas smell (it turned out to be a leaking fuel pump).  I asked the service manager at Pugmire Lincoln of Marietta to activate the lower LEDs and told him it should be in the Daytime Driving Safety menu.  Sure enough they did it.  Apparently they already knew how to do it, because he said they normally charge $60 to activate the DRLs.

The lower LED's (signature LED) are on only in drive and are on even if the headlight knob is turned to the off position (circle).

So to summarize, 2013 MKZ lower LED's can definitely be enabled even if your car is NOT a hybrid.  But it all comes down to how knowledgeable the service tech is.   Here's a pic of my car and the service receipt.  As you can see the parking lights are not on but the lower LED's are.
