    Weird electrical issue...

I should add that the car is covered by a Ford extended warranty so these repairs have not cost me anything. Also the local dealership is friendly and professional. I think they are as motivated as i am to get this car repaired properly.

    Weird electrical issue...

So to continue the saga... The car would not start last week. We got it to the Lincoln dealer for the fourth time. They had it for about a week and just got it back yesterday. They installed a new battery. This car is a 2017 so it's probably about 4 years old now and this is it's fourth battery. They also tested the BCE (Body, chassis, electrical) module and found some glitch with the BCE communicating with a door module. They reflashed and reprogrammed the BCE module and i hope that will solve the intermittent battery drain. I just wanted to share the latest with our issue in case someone else has similar problems with their MKZ. We really like the car and appreciate everyone's comments regarding our no start issue!

    Weird electrical issue...

Yeah, it's really puzzling. The Lincoln dealer has had it the last 3 days. Today they called and said they could not find the problem. I told them to keep it a few more days - it's under an extended warranty. The good news is they gave us a new Nautilus as a loaner - still prefer the sedan over the SUV, but it's a nice loaner.

    Weird electrical issue...

Thanks Multitask, yes, Lincoln has an obligation to figure this out. I'm trying to gather as much info as i can to nudge them in the right direction if possible. It is just weird and i hope they can get the car sorted. We really like the car when it starts! And, yes, we are thinking we may have to pursue Lemon Laws...

    Weird electrical issue...

2017 MKZ, Reserve, 3.0T, AWD, 36,000 miles. We bought the car last Feb. About 2 months ago we went to the garage to take the car - dead. A few warning lights on the dash, but no crank, no beep of the horn, no interior lights. Called roadside assistance, they put their boost box on it and it came alive and fired right up. Got it over to the Lincoln dealer, they tested the battery - failed, new battery. I noticed the battery that failed had a sticker on it of "2-19". So that tells me the original battery was replaced by another battery sometime in early 2019. This 3 year old car has had three batteries - original, the "2-19" battery and then the new one in there now. About a month ago, same thing - a few warning lights but otherwise dead, dead, dead. Roadside assistance again, boost box again, fired right up. Lincoln dealer could not find a problem. Tried to locate any electrical drain and it was all in tolerance. Got it back after a week and told to monitor it. Yep, you guessed it, same thing today. I got smart and bought my own compact boost box and it fired the car right up. I'm going to get it over to the Lincoln dealer tomorrow, but i was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what this could be. Thanks guys!

    Fuel filter question

Went to my Lincoln dealer today and had them replace the fuel filter. The part was about $24 and labor around $80 so a touch over $100 to get it replaced. They were surprised as they had never done one, but sure enough, there was a filter in there to replace. I asked if i could go back there and see where it was located and they said no... oh well... It took between 30-40 minutes, so i don't think it's difficult to do. I wanted a Lincoln tech to do it because my car is still under warranty. So there ya go... it's not a misprint in the manual. If your Scheduled Maintenance says to replace the fuel filter there's a good chance there is one to replace. Plus you get the satisfaction of the puzzled looks on your service advisor's face.😂

Another rookie question about our MKZ.

Thanks for checking, bbf2530 - i appreciate it.

    Fuel filter question

Just as a follow-up to this discussion... I was in O'Reilly Auto Parts and asked about the fuel filter. He found the one i linked to previously. I asked if he had any diagrams about the location of the filter and he found a couple of pics. The filter is inside a frame rail, above the gas tank on the drivers side. It is behind a plastic panel that is held in place with 3 plastic push pin type connectors. Basically remove the panel, relieve the fuel pressure, remove the connectors on each end of the filter and replace. I haven't looked under my car yet to see what i can see, but that is the latest...

Another rookie question about our MKZ.

OK, another rookie question… I was looking in the trunk of our new to us 2017 MKZ. The front, left/drivers side corner of the floor for the trunk is “open”. The floor mat is lower on that side… I found a lime in there from some groceries that were rolling around in the trunk… LOL I opened the left/drivers side rear passenger door, tipped the seat back forward and found that there is a piece of hard foam under the mat on the passenger side but not one on the drivers side. The third (rather awkward) pic below is thru the passenger door and me holding up the truck floor mat. The black foam on the passenger side is visible on the top left of the pic. So I’m wondering if someone would check their car and tell me if there is indeed a piece of foam under the front, drivers side trunk floor mat. I will probably head over to my Lincoln dealer to see about ordering that part. I’m also wondering how in the heck that piece of foam went missing… Never installed? Removed by previous owner for some odd reason? Anyway, thanks in advance.

    Fuel filter question

Went over to my Lincoln dealer today and asked the question about fuel filters. Head scratching ensued. The Service Advisor said he had never heard of replacing a fuel filter on an MKZ. I showed him the owners manual. He went to the parts guy - no external fuel filter available. The SA was able to find a way in his computer to open a work order to replace the fuel filter, found the part and said it would take 1/2 hour to install. More head scratching. The SA talked to his lead tech and that guy said he had never heard of replacing a fuel filter. I told the SA that i had chatted with a guy online (bbf2530) that stated the owners manual for his 2018 had a similar requirement. Shoulder shrugs. The SA thinks it's a misprint... JimF, thanks for the links to the filter. This is consistent with what the SA found but inconsistent with the parts guys... Weird... So if anyone else wants to get their toodlizer on and check their local Lincoln dealers i'd be interested in hearing the conversation. I know a couple of guys that work for Ford and i will ask them where i can send a letter asking the question.

    Fuel filter question

Prior to toodling, i looked up a fuel filter at O'reilly auto parts. Here's the link... https://www.oreillyauto.com/shop/b/fuel---emissions-16775/carburetors---parts-16801/fuel-filter-water-separator-12305/6bf814fc80d2/2017/lincoln/mkz?q=fuel+filter The style of this filter leads me to believe it is not internal to the fuel tank and is somewhere along the fuel line... if this part is accurate. Anyway, another piece of the puzzle. And yes, a tech member would be great!

    Fuel filter question

Well, technically you're correct. 😄 You accurately quoted the text in the body of the owners manual where it says there is a permanent fuel filter. The section on Scheduled Maintenance has, apparently, a contradicting statement to replace the fuel filter. My 2017 manual says every 35,000 miles and for the 3.0L only. Your 2018 manual says 30,000 miles and 3.0L AWD... so a minor difference. Maybe i just need to toodle over to my local Lincoln dealer and ask them... but they will almost certainly tell me i need to replace the filter... whether i actually need to or not. I still have the question if this is a DIY project or if it is one to have the dealer do.

    Fuel filter question

Thanks bbf, i saw that in my owners manual, but i also saw on page 502 under "Scheduled Maintenance", "Other Maintenance Items" that every 35,000 miles you are to "Replace the fuel filter (3.0L only)". Hence my question...😀
