Zurich ZR Pro OBDII reader/programmer BUG

It's now Sept '19. There have been some Zurich Pro firmware updates but my 2012 MKZ still shows up as a V4 instead of V6. Sent in another complaint, they took the first one out of the queue???

    Daytime Running Lights

I found a menu in my Zurich Pro to turn on/off running lights, set it to 'on' and Voila! Daytime running lamps with the headlight switch off (2012 MKZ, 102A package).

Zurich ZR Pro OBDII reader/programmer BUG

Just purchased the Harbor Freight Zurich Pro. After installation and all updates I discovered that it does not recognize the 2012 MKZ as a V6: It will only initiate the vehicle as a V4. After a long "hands on" phone session with Zurich trying different configurations, it was determined that Zurich needs to work on a fix. BTW, I got the coupon price then went online to find a discount coupon code page, entered all the codes on the HF order page until one gave me an 'extra' $200 off the coupon discount! The unit is also a Wi-Fi Android tablet MAB

Remote Start - Battery Saver Hint (1 way type)

BTW, I did conquer the 'open door/kill engine' problem. See remedy that worked on my MKZ in the "D.I.Y. Guides" forum section MAB

How To End Idiotic "Open Door/Kill Engine"

You will be fooling around with the autos programming. Do so at your own risk! This worked on my 2012 MKZ and that's all I can tell you. You would be wise to check YouTube, online manuals and other forums for your year and model. To repeat (as preface) from post I started under 'keys': "...I was ready to find the elusive 'under the dash program button & light'. I needed to add a 2nd remote start FOB and end the dreaded 'engine dies when door opens' curse. Reading posts on the Fusion forum, I tried to locate the under dash button/light by 'key on> press remote start FOB button 1 time'... no light. In fact, now that I have found it, I have yet to see the light, light! Thankfully, I was able to locate the button by a well lit search under the dash. In my MKZ the button/light are located directly above the far end of the 'under dash hood release' but exact placement depends on the installer. OK, now that I found the magic button I also found that the only way I could do the required procedures with the doors closed (required) was to come in the passenger side, placing a cushion over the parking brake handle (to save my ribs), lay across the two seats squeezing myself under the steering wheel while reaching up under the dash...." ... and no, after this mod someone cannot get in without a key and drive off. After the mod, if the brake peddle is pressed or the parking brake is released 'without the key turned to the on position', the engine will still die. When 'you' get in with the key, turn it to 'on', air/heat keeps working as you drive away. So here is how you unprogram the "door of death": 1. Turn key on (do not start engine) 2. Hold program button & brake peddle down until you hear 3 short beeps (10-15 seconds or so). Release button & brake (you are now in 'program' mode). 3. Press button and release, you will hear 4 beeps (that puts you in Bank 1 program options). 4. Again Press button and release, you will hear 5 beeps (that puts you in Bank 2 program options). 5. Push & release brake peddle until you hear seven beeps [one push\one beep, two pushes\two beeps and so on until seven] (that takes you to option 7 in Bank 2). 6. Now press button ON REMOTE START FOB once (FOB button toggles option 'on' or 'off') 7. Turn key off and remove DONE

How To Program Additional Remote Start FOB

To program additional Remote Start (RS) FOB: I purchased a 'Lincoln' emblem 1 way RS FOB (not programmed of course) on EBay. Difference between this FOB and original was that the EBay FOB Lincoln emblem was upside-down, so as on the orig. to read "Lincoln" the light would be on upper side of remote: On the EBay RS FOB the light would be at the bottom. So here is how I programmed the additional Remote Start FOB so it would work with my MKZ: Have key ready with the RS FOB separated but handy because you will need to use it in the process 1. With doors closed/locked and windows up insert Key and turn to 'on' position (just turn on, do not start vehicle) 2. Press & hold program button and brake peddle down simultaneously until you hear 3 short horn beeps (could take 15 seconds or so) then RELEASE button and brake peddle. The beeps verify that you have entered Programing Mode. NOTE: Key is still in 'on' position. 3. Press & hold button ON THE REMOTE START FOB YOU WANT TO PROGRAM until you hear one beep. 4. Turn key off and remove. DONE

    Beyond The Remote Key FOB

... continued (Program additional Remote Start FOBs) The position to reach the program button is so awkward that I found a short bat shaped handle to press on the brake peddle while holding the program button was of great help. The Mystery! As the King of Siam said, "Is a puzzlement!" As I mentioned in above post I could easily tell the RS FOBs apart. So here's the strange part. The vehicle seems to know which is the added FOB. When the MKZ is started with the orig. RS FOB, 1 push of the 'unlock' button on the key FOB unlocks the driver door as it should. When the MKZ is started with the added RS FOB it takes 2 presses of the 'unlock' button to unlock the drivers door! At first I thought it was a bad button press but after repeating the starting procedure 3 times... well, it's for real. It's late again... so next reply, on to the BIG challenge: Turning off the "open door kill engine" goofy programming idea...

    Beyond The Remote Key FOB

... It's Tomorrow I moved "Programming Additional Remote Start" to the D.I.Y. Guides section. I'm having problems getting a carriage return here so I will continue "Turning off the "open door kill engine" goofy programming idea..." also in the D.I.Y. Guides section

    Beyond The Remote Key FOB

Now that I conquered the inexpensive Wal-Mart Universal FOB (see my post "Inexpensive Remote Key FOB") I was ready to find the elusive 'under the dash program button & light'. I needed to add a 2nd remote start FOB and end the dreaded 'engine dies when door opens' curse. Reading posts on the Fusion forum, I tried to locate the light by 'key on> press remote start button 1 time'... no light. In fact, now that I have found it, I have yet to see the light, light! Thankfully, I was able to locate the button by a well lit search under the dash. In my MKZ the button/light are located directly above the far end of the 'under dash hood release' but exact placement depends on the installer. OK, now that I found the magic button I also found that the only way I could do the required procedures with the doors closed (required) was to come in the passenger side, placing a cushion over the parking brake (to save my ribs), lay across the two seats squeezing myself under the steering wheel while reaching up under the dash.... Must go now, to be continued tomorrow...

"The 2012 MKZ is based on the same chassis as the Ford Fusion sedan but its distinguishes itself with Lincoln’s signature split-wing grille that is a throwback to the 1941 Continental. The look helps the MKZ and the rest of the Lincoln lineup stand out in the crowded luxury market." - MOTOR TREND

Lots of people knock the MKZ for being based on the Ford Fusion, I see it as a benefit. When it comes time to repair or maintain the car I'm paying quite a bit less than I would be with a car built on some specialized platform.

... also, I'm thinking there is an option to turn 'voice' on or off.

what's best windshield cover for Z?

What do I know? I just bought a shield in Wal-Mart, this one says "Ford" on one side. Instructions say you can use either side but I keep silver side facing out; works and fits nice with a small bit of accordion fold that doesn't bother the effectiveness. MAB
