Peter Vandermat
Good afternoon, Does anyone know if the MKZ black label puddle lamps will work on a non-Black Label MKZ? The new ones project the "welcome mat" with the Lincoln emblem on the ground rather than just lights. Would it be a simple remove and replace? carbuff442
tgara
I'd be interested in an answer to this too. Seems like it should be a simple swap, but you never know. Here's a pic I found with the new puddle lamps on an BL MKC. philld
Myron D. Brown
I assumed all 2016 MKZs had the puddle lamp/welcome mat feature. I haven't read anything to suggest this was a Black Label exclusive feature. Am I not correct? A little over month ago, someone uploaded pictures of the welcome mat on a new 2016 MKZ. I can't remember which thread it was.
bobhamb
That might have been me. I have a 2016 black label, but I don't remember it being an exclusive to that model. It does show a large, bright pattern.

tgara
Hmmmm.... That's interesting because the 2016 MKZ Order Guide indicated that the exterior mirrors were "New/Changed". It wasn't clear to me when I read it earlier because it simply says Puddle/Projector Lamp without any details. Frankly, the description looked very similar to the 2015 brochure which called them "Security Approach Lamps" — Mirrors ○ Power Glass and Power-Folding ○ Heated ○ Puddle/Projector Lamp ○ Integrated Turn Signal ○ Driver/Passenger Memory ○ Auto-Dimming (Drivers Side Only) So the question remains: Is it possible to upgrade tan older model o the new 2016 projector lamps? I need an answer now, dammit!! :) :) :)
Waynes2016MkZ
Did anyone confirm that this is on all models? I just came off deployment and had a 2016 built I don't pick it up until the 12th.

tgara
OK, so I was at my (NON-Black Label) dealer today getting service for a couple of recalls. I took the opportunity to look at 2016 MKZ models to see if they have the fancy new puddle lamps. And indeed they do! See attached photos of the underside of the rear view mirrors. The round lamp is from a 2015 MKZ. The rectangular-ish lamp is on the 2016 models. One of the 2016 models happened to be unlocked, and I could see the light on the back of my black iPhone case. It looks exactly like the picture of the MKC posted above. Anyway, I'm no mechanical engineer, but to my eye, this does not look like a trivial swap if one wants 2016 lamps on a pre-2016 vehicle. Seems like the entire bottom of the mirror is different. Balls. Edited July 27, 2015 by tgara
2015mkzhybrid
Now that this mystery has been solved, I wonder what would be involved in adding just the Lincoln logo, or maybe the MKZ script in the side mirror projection light for pre-16 models? I realize the long rectangular-type light projection wouldn't work based on the shape of the '16 puddle lamp unit, but with today's electronics, especially with our late model MKZeds (Canadianism), I think I might do some research. This puddle lamp feature is just so cool.

At $18 (US) it's not a huge investment.
Andrew L
Too bad. I am personally more interested in the power folding option though.
