Somdamon
Interested in hearing great tales of MPG, both longest and shortest trip as well as average from total distance driven. My record short trip is 68mpg, and I have just reached 35mpg total distance after 592miles and 1 month of ownership (2012 model). I also have my first "bloom" as of 3 days ago. Its a great life...love the MKZ.

AndrewMKZ
Not complaining. Actually, yes, it is. Just older technology than the 2013, which with the Eco boost has more horses and an mpg or two.
2007MKZ
2007 FWD 144000 miles, 128 mile daily commute, 25.7 average with 87 octane
BuckyB
My wife seems to be getting about 31.4 MPG on her 2012 MKZ Hybrid. She doesn't do anything in particular to maximize MPG's and in my opinion drives a bit agressively. It's mostly around town in the San Sernando Valley, so I guess you'd call it "Suburban" driving. Very little highway and very little true city. I tend to get better in my 2011 Nissan Altima Hybrid, usually around 33 MPG with the same mix of driving. I had expected the Lincoln to do better than the Nissan, but I guess that's par for the course lately with Ford's hybrids. Anyway, neither of us has anything to complain about. 2 great cars with great gas mileage. BTW, MPG's for both are as calculated by the cars' computers. GlennA
Has anyone had the software upgrade for the engine/drivetrain for the 2013 MKZ Hybrid that's supposed to increase mileage? Results?
SteveB_TX
Has anyone had the software upgrade for the engine/drivetrain for the 2013 MKZ Hybrid that's supposed to increase mileage? Results? There is a great discussion about this, with several guinea pigs offering up results as they get them, over on the Ford Fusion Hybrid forum . I am waiting to get mine reprogrammed until I see the results of the changes to the A/C. Edited July 30, 2013 by SteveB_TX
SteveB_TX
Getting mine done this coming Wednesday. Wish me luck!
SteveB_TX
Well, I have not had a chance to test it much, but I have gotten it to enter EV mode for a few seconds at 75 MPH. The terrain around my parts is hilly, so it is tough to find a flat stretch of highway to test the update. More to come... :)
jazz0842
I have a 2012 MKZ hybrid. I just logged my 10,000 mile this past weekend.I do mostly suburban driving. Getting 34+ MPG. I still love the ride.I miss my Tahoe but no the 14 mpg it used to get.
Johnman
Just got back from a cross country trip in my 2013 hybrid. 3,600 miles mostly at 75-80mph. Average mpg for the trip was 34.6 mpg. Pretty impressive! philld
cb845
I got the software upgrade two weeks ago but spent last week away on vacation. It's to early to tell ye,t but my first fill up since the upgrade gave me 2.3 better mpg. I have had it as high as 75 in the EV mode in cruise control. I will update you in another month. randygrenier
I've owned Prius twice, and I learned a few things about hybrid driving: 1. There is a break in period--mileage should increase after 4-5,000 miles. 2. Driving in the real world never matches the EPA estimates, but that's true for non-hybrids as well. 3. You can learn driving habits and techniques that will dramatically improve your mileage. For example: - Watch the left display in Empower mode, and practice trying to keep it in the blue more (not too much--keep your eyes on the road.) - Look ahead for opportunities to break gradually and get some regen--for example traffic lights ahead. - Listen for the gas engine. Learn to drive so that it doesn't rev as much. - Drive more constant speeds. - Use all the tools that Lincoln provides to help with mileage: EV+, Eco Cruise Control, Brake Coach, and all the display modes. In other words, you have to work the hybrid technology to get the benefits. hermans
We just returned from our Christmas trip of 1702 miles in the MKZh. Went to Lexington, KY on a 60 degree day. The next morning it was 22 degrees and we went to Michigan and the temps went from a high of 22 to a low of 9 degrees with snow and an ice storm. Then to Ohio where the temps were a little warmer...then back to PA in 45-50 degree sunny weather. Mileage was mostly 65-70 MPH with some 75-80 MPH legs. The car was loaded with luggage and Christmas presents and we averaged 40.8 MPG for the trip. The car drove great and it was an extremely comfortable trip. I found eco-cruise wasn't allowing the car to go into EV mode on slight down hills. I switched it off and hypermiled the car for stretches and went into EV much more. I also was able to stay in EV mode much longer going up hill. When I got tired I would go back to eco-cruise. I think this made a difference. kseckel99
Has anyone had the software upgrade for the engine/drivetrain for the 2013 MKZ Hybrid that's supposed to increase mileage? Results? Didn't seem to help my mileage. I'm averaging about 39 MPG. Got the car in July.
srcolson
I too have found that Eco Cruise reduces use of EV mode. As a new owner of a hybrid, I find myself experimenting with driving styles absolutely unfamiliar to me. Am a delusional in thinking that I get better fuel economy when over-accelerating to a higher than desired speed, taking my foot of the "gas" pedal, coasting and then only applying enough throttle to maintain my target speed? Slowly building up speed seems to get me lower fuel enonomy.
scowally
I am thinking about getting an MKZ Hybrid for the high MPG. I have a 65 mile commute each way (mostly highway between 70-80 most of the way) every day and would love to get 40 mpg vs. the 27 I am getting today from my Altima (granted it is paid off and all I am paying for is gas). Any advice on the MKZ hybrid? I am disapointed it has such a small gas tank and had hoped it would be bigger so I would only have fill up once a week. Will I really be getting 40 mpg or is that a load of BS? Also, I heard a new upgrade will allow MKZh to drive electric at speeds of up to 75 MPH. Is this true? Thanks

The sweet spot is 62 MPH. That is where the EPA number comes from... on a flat road... no headwind... perfect temp... you get the point. The highest I have achieved is 39 MPG on a 1200 mile cross country trip. I was happy to get that since my SportTrac gets 21 highway on a good day. :) And yes, going downhill at 75 the MKZh will enter EV mode, but will not stay there for long. I knew going in that the EPA numbers of 45/45 would be hard for me to get since I live in Texas... Uber Hot in the summer and freezing in the winter (was a high today of 19!). Using the A/C or Heat keeps the engine running more often, therefore cutting down the MPG. I wanted a car that looked good, had a classy and comfy interior, and got descent MPG. The MKZh filled the bill nicely. I love my MKZh! :) philld and kevin_sos@hotmail.com 1
srcolson
I find that commuting 50 miles one way, at 65 MPH, will give me 40 MPG. If I get aggressive, my mileage drops to 37 MPG. Driving in "Old Man Mode" for about 10 miles will help me get my fuel economy back to 39 to 40 MPG. Until the MKZ hybrid, I've never driven this slow. LOL...I'm now amazed at how most people exceed the California speed limit by 10 to 15 MPH.
