ming
Hello Everyone. I am new to the forum and looking for ideas on custom mod's and general customer satisfaction with MKZ's. I am considering installing a performance chip in my 2012 3.5L MKZ. Has anyone installed one? Have you noticed any difference in engine performance/mileage? Thank you!! drolds1
There are no performance "chips" per se. Replaceable PROM chips haven't been used in decades. If you're talking about one of those low-buck ebay specials, don't waste your money. It's a scam. If you're interested in some modest gains and are willing to spend some money, then what you need to be looking at is a hand-held tuner that reflashes your ECM. For example, SCT. GLigotti57
I am new to the Lincolns. My previous vehicle was a 300C SRT8. I had what was called "powerchip" it hooked into you vehicles CPU ( under the dashboard) you were able to adjust just about everything you can. Gear ratios, idle, temp. Ect.... I haven't checked if it is avaliable for the 3.7L MKZ. If anyone has a chip or something similar. Please post. Also any engine mods? I want to juice this puppy up. schteve
I would check out livernois motorsports http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/ They have tuners exhaust etc
brucelinc
I know Livernois has tuning for the naturally aspirated 3.5 in a Taurus which is basically a smaller version of the 3.7. You would need to ask them if the tuning would be compatible. Tuning makes a HUGE difference on turbocharged engines like the ecoboost but not nearly as much on naturally aspirated engines. Part of the tuning process also improves transmission shift quality so it might be worth it. Just don't expect a huge difference like the ecoboosts get. Kevant69
Has anyone tried any Performance Chips on 2013 MKZ 3.7L? Like this one: http://www.globalautoshop.com/performance/chip/lincoln_performance_chip_tuning_module.htm
brucelinc
Wow...Never heard of this. I haven't even heard the term "chip" used in years to describe a performance upgrade. I am highly skeptical but I wish someone would try it and report back! EDIT: I just did a google search of this company. I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole. ECUs in cars haven't had replaceable PROM chips since the 80s. This is snake oil. These inexpensive "chips" are generally cheap resistors that fool the IAT sensor into "thinking" that the intake air is colder. This will cause the ECU to command a richer air/fuel mixture. Then it will try to compensate for constant rich running by leaning out the mixture. If it's able to compensate, you get nothing. If it can't, you get a CEL. You could do damage which won't be covered by your powertrain warranty. The only proper solution is a handheld tuner.

Thanks So the best performance upgrade is a programmable tune.
