My first Chrome Mod - Lower Grill

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is already somewhere on the site, but the lower grill needed a bit of bling, so I added 1/4" Cowles Chrome molding on the lower grill portion. A $15 mod done in under 10 minutes. Really happy with the results. I LOVE THIS CAR!!!

That's a pretty cool mod - ;)

Thanks - I'm surptrised Lincoln didn't continue the Chrome on the lower grill - and the license plate doesn't obstruct the lower grill so the mod is in clear view.

And regarding the question if I have the Tech package - no, that's the only option not on the car.

Thanks Mark, As the lower grill on models with the tech package are slightly different and I believe the radar unit is behind the grill, I wonder if that chrome mode would affect its operation and related features.

That's a good question. Unless there are any sensors directly on the lower grill "bars" or "slats", I have my doubts that the chrome molding would affect the tech package operation. Also, the chrome molding is made of PVC, so this mod is just adding a bit more plastic to existing plastic.

Wow ,I felt the same that the lower grill needed something to bring it out. I did the exact same thing to my 13 Zh . I used the thinner chrome strips , but looking at yours I may go for the wider strips. I always look at MKZs comming at me to see if anyone has done this , so yours is the first one (are we the only ones ) , and I do not know why Lincoln did not do this because it looks really good!  I also had a clear bra put on the front hood and bumper when I brought the car in July 2013 , it has been on for two years and is still perfect , you can not see it unless you know its on and are looking for it . Good job , Jim

Once again, thanks Jim for your comment. Even my Lincoln dealer loved the chrome add-on, and noticed it immediately.

I too have the cłear hood protection (XPEL) - guess great minds think alike!!

Great minds indeed. The Xpel is rated very high and should last a long time , I got VentureShield . Now for the interior , a group of us at Lincoln owners forum , went to a place called Cocomats.com , he custom made us floor mats made just for the 2013 and up Lincoln Mkz . Since the floor mats that come with car are so small on the drivers side , he makes us mats that extend up behind the pedals they lay flat on the floor and come in different color combinations , they are super easy to clean , just shake them out. Also , as soon as I got the car I applied a coating called Optiumn Opti - coat 2.0 , this is like adding a layer of top coat onto the surface , this will last five years , I have it on now for two years and the car needs never to be waxed , just wash and it looks just waxed , I still top it with a detailer because I am so used to waxing , but in truth nothing will sick to the surface. This is a really great car , I will be watching to see how the refresh for 2017 turns out ,so far I am not liking what I hear about the change to the front grill .  Jim

Where did you get that Chrome Mod Lower Grill from i like it alot?

I cut desired length strips from a 20' roll of Cowles 1/4" 3M Chrome molding. Up here in Canada, it is sold at Canadian Tire. I have seen the product sold in the USA at Auto Zone and Advance Auto Parts. Inexpensive mod with great results!

I'm about to purchase a 2018 MKZ and looking to do the same chrome strip to the lower grill.  I was thinking the 1/4 inch wouldn't be wide enough to wrap around and secure.  Was looking at the 1/2 inch or even wider.  Appreciate your thoughts.  Looks great.  My goal is to bring back chrome!
