2008 Lincoln MKZ Tail Lights Stopped Working

Recommended Posts

Hello to  all.  When I pressed my remote to unlock my 2008 Lincoln MKZ, my tail lights and headlights did not activate, fog lights and puddle lights did activate. Upon starting my car the headlights activated but tail lights did not. My brake lights and turn signals are ok. Still no tail lights Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

All my lights are working except tail lights. looked through the owner's manual and it showed no fuse for the tail lights.

That's because there aren't any.  There tail lights are controlled by the SJB.  That's why I suggested it as something to look at.  A Lincoln dealer or a well-equipped independent shop can scan the SJB for codes.

I took my car to the dealer this morning to have the tail light issue diagnosed. It too less than 30 minutes for the technician to determine that the issue was being caused by condensation in my right side ( passenger side) headlamp assembly. We have had a lot of rain and snow in the last few weeks. They tell me there is a module in the right side headlamp assembly that controls the tail lights. Cost of diagnosis, repair, and replacing the headlamp assembly $763.00! IT STINGS! My part will be in tomorrow. I'm going to try and take pictures of the old parts and post them if possible.

If anyone has condensation in their headlamps I would suggest fixing it before it becomes more expensive. Taking the headlights out drying them and sealing with silicone may save some money.

Thanks Rusty for the info. I read the posts as you suggested. My service advisor this morning said that the tech did replace a fuse and it started smoking as soon as it was replaced and the lights turned on,  which caused them to look at other possibilities. I looked all through the fuse section of my owner's manual and it shows no fuses for the tail lights on the '08 model MKZ, so I have no idea where it might be.
