jmactenn
Has anyone had problems with the headrest leather deteriorating? It's a 2014 MKZ hybrid with 10K miles. That's not dirt. I wash my hair at least four times a week with soap and water and don't use any products. So I can't figure out why this is happening. I'll see what the dealer says when I take it in for service Monday.
drolds1
The head restraint cover isn't leather. Only the seating surfaces are leather. The rest is vinyl. That still doesn't explain why the color is coming off. What cleaning products do you use? Also, is the restraint in constant contact with your head? It is adjustable to avoid that. Run it by your dealer. Maybe they'll warranty it. If not, a trim shop could probably re-dye it. For the record, mine's pristine.

It only affected one of the three, which was the one I was always sitting in. It turned out to be my blood pressure medicine that was causing it. Don't know how or why, but that was the first question the chair manufacturer asked me.
jmactenn
I just use Dove soap to wash my hair. I do have my head against the headrest while driving. That's the most comfortable for me. This never happened in my previous cars or recliners. Thanks

Thanks Actually, I was asking what cleaning products you use on the car's interior. ;) Sorry for the confusion, but since it's come up, maybe it's the soap. I've found that bar soap residue can be surprisingly corrosive. Maybe try regular shampoo for a while.
jmactenn
I've only cleaned the interior once. Again, just soap and water, dish soap, Dawn.
SteveB_TX
I would never use Dawn on leather. Dawn is a degreaser and will suck out the natural oils in the leather. Not a good choice. Use a leather cleaner followed by a quality leather conditioner. :) robertlane
jmactenn
I forgot to mention that I cleaned it This past Sunday, that's when I noticed it. I've had leather interiors for more years than I care to remember. And I have never had any problems Edited March 17, 2015 by jmactenn

Nevertheless: Do not use household or glass cleaners as these may damage the finish of the instrument panel, interior trim and cluster lens. jmactenn
Got it. No dish detergent. Only used once in this car, Got leather cleaner and conditioner. Thanks. But that has nothing to do with current problem.
