2013 Lincoln MKZ: Panoramic Roof Video

I tell you, looks awesome.  However (although has nothing to do with Lincoln)

Years ago my mother had a Honda Accord with a moonroof.  While driving down the road one day, its like the thing just shattered without warning.  Could it have been a rock? Sure!  However, to us it just shattered.

I would hate to make that repair on that car!

@AndrewMKZ - This happened to me a couple of weeks ago.  I was driving down the highway when my sunroof exploded.  Nobody really wanted to deal with it because it's such a large project and of course one small chip caused the entire sunroof to shatter and all of the parts out of the support fell off the car (chipping the paint on the sides/back) and the center portion remained but was fully cracked.  Having the whole thing replaced is going to run a couple thousand (but I learned that there's a specific insurance to have a zero deductable for replacement so I'll be looking into THAT as an option).  At this point I feel the forward-facing aspect of the sunroof was a critical (and expensive) design flaw considering the sunroof is designed to shatter on impact (per Lincoln representative).  Aside from the numerous mechanical issues I've had (currently in process of lemon-law buyback) this was just another nail in the coffin.  I can't recommend this vehicle to anyone and plan to get rid of it as soon as possible.

This is sad to read.  I really love the pan roof and would get one on my MKZ.  The shattering is the first one that I've read though and after dealing with hundreds of Mustangs with the glass roof (fixed), I've never heard of one shattering or anything like that.

In fact, one Shelby GT was involved in a massive wreck in the desert and while the glass roof was pot marked with debris wounds, it didn't crack or fracture.

My latest update:

The cost was over $10,000 (it's approaching $12,000 at this point).  The body shop took almost 45 days to fix it (there was some bad weather in there but that only accounted for a couple days).  After getting the car back there's a buzzing in the car at highway speeds because the front plastic piece didn't get put back correctly, the header 'rattles' (sounds like I'm constantly in heavy rain), and some of the glass fell into the rail that moves the seat forward/backward.  So at this point I'm driving a $50,000 car that buzzes, creaks, and doesn't have a way to adjust the seat or steering wheel because the glass shorts out the fuse.  Oh and the part is on back-order so it's anybody's guess how long it'll take to fix.

Even aside from the other mechanical issues that I've had with the vehicle this most recent handling of fixes has been ludicrous.  Maybe my scenario is a one-off but it would seem as though if that was the case that it shouldn't take so long to fix the problems.  I'm coming up on owning the vehicle for 9 months and I'm not even at 4k miles because it can't stay out of the shop long enough to drive anywhere.
