Paint Chip

So, thanks to road construction, my hood met up with a flying rock and it not only made a small dent in the front of the hood, but took paint right down to the metal.  There was/has been a lot of cussing.

Any tips on dos or don't for repairing this; it's very small, but noticeable since it's almost dead center.

I have been told about DoctorColorChip ( drcolorchip.com ) from a reliable source but I am anxious to make it worse.  The website has a cool video and it looks way better than just a dab of paint.

How have you dealt with rock dings?

A dent with paint damage that you described should be fixed by a pro , you won't be satisfied with a do it yourself job if you are concerned about how good you want your car to look and long you intend to keep it. I do have the clear bra since the car was new (2013 Z) and the front looks just as good as new and the bra looks good also. But I do not think any hood would withstand getting hit with a rock like that but the clear bra would be able to minimize the damage. So bite the bullet because every time you look at the repaired front you will feel good about it. And always ride way behind any work truck!  Good luck , Jim

I lived with that paint chip because as we know, touch up just doesn't do it right...especially in a highly visible spot.

Eventually my fix was to trade it in for a new car.  Chipless for now.

The clear bra might be a good next step.

Wow I hope you don't do that every time you get a paint chip (just kidding) ,but a great solution. Like I said I like my clear bra ,now on four years, and my car is silver , the bra is very hard to see on a light car. It is a little more noticeable on dark. But the fact is the hood and bumper will be well protected. Again go to a pro to have it done and ask to see pictures of their work on other cars that are same color as your new one. The person who installed my bra was doing a very expensive sports car when I visited them the first time and they had pictures of some of the mostly upscale cars they serviced. If you live anywhere near me I will give you my persons name and address. I am in Western Mass.  Good luck , Jim

Jim, thanks for info on the clear bra application and checking prior work is a really good idea; especially on the jet black paint.

My Lincoln dealer had it on several cars including one loaded black Continental...stunning auto...I might inquire 'who done it'.

Thanks, Ron
