philld
Has anyone else had an issue with the plastic trim on the windshield, and left/right of the rear glass oxidizing. Im considering painting them. Dealer cost for the rears $280 per side! Windshield pice is not sold seperately.
fusionff
Well, those side pieces (left & right sides) are a lot cheaper than you think, about $150 shipped each. Mine have all (Left, right, and front) showed a little oxidation, so I bought a set for future installation when I'll need to. I had a tough time finding the front strip by the windshield, but they do sell that part separately also. The front part was about $180 shipped. You can search for better prices, shipping varies a lot between Parts sites. The Left side (DP5Z-5451969-A) is about $150 shipped, which I got from Tasca Parts. The right side (DP5Z-5451968-A) is about the same shipped, which I got from Ford Parts Giant. I only paid $75 for this one a while back. The Front Strip (DP5Z-5451916-B) is about $180 shipped, which I got from Fairway Ford Parts. These plastic parts get beat up by the sun, so they need a coat of wax way more often that the rest of the car. These parts pop right out and are easily installed. My side pieces look like yours, eventually I'll tape 'em off and see how they buff out with some extra cut buffing compound (I have experience in working with gelcoated fiberglass and hard plastics) wetsanding with 1500 if required. If not happy with the results, I'll just drop them off at a body shop for gloss black base/clearcoat paint. kramf411

I probably can't do what you're planning to do so I might just drop it off a body shop. There's no tools needed to pull these trims, just pull it off, am I right? Thanks. I don't know how they pull, if/when I try the extra cut buffing I'll just mask the piece and do it on the car. The masking is just to avoid any unplanned buffing elsewhere, as the compound overspray just cleans up with a warm bucket of water and soft bath towel. FWIW, only the passenger side piece on my car has this problem, so it would appear it's caused by poor practices/worksmanship. 😞 Edited October 10, 2023 by 17MKZ3.0TT kramf411
