Bill D
I replaced the battery in the trunk of my 2017 MKZ hybrid. When doing so I apparently pulled the emergency release to the fuel cover and broke it. I purchased a new fuel pocket but I can't get the new pocket installed. The fuel neck is in the way. Is there an easy way to reinstall the pocket? Am I going to have to lower the gas tank or something to install the new pocket?
Izzy3906
The way I did mine was pulling the liner down and sticking my hand through it to put it in place from the back side. Hope this helps.

jmcgliss
Sorry I'm late to the discussion. I replaced mine because the fuel door was sagging. A plastic pin/stop on the hinge wears out or breaks. You can repair the original assembly with a metal cotter pin (stronger solution). See photo. I removed the wheel and inner fender liner. Boy do those recycled fiber liners hold a lot of water and dust. Using the smallest plastic trim removal tool, I was able to pry the pocket loose - but perhaps it would have been easier had I also pushed it out from the inside. I recall having to do something with the fuel filler hose - like moving spring clamp or drain line. Sorry the photo is not the best angle.
