Sync Update

Lincoln tells me there is an update for my 17 hybrid.  I followed their instructions but can someone tell me exactly what should be done?  I start the car, put the usb in.  Then what?  Is the system supposed to tell me something while it's doing it's thing?  I've done it 2 times.  Both times over an hour.  Usb is formatted correctly.  Nothing on the screen at all tells me mission accomplished.  Sync version still says 3.0. The update is v3.0.20204. The only thing that has changed is on my usb external hard drive I use for music, some artists have changed from artist to composer (ie. I have the soundtrack for Charade from 1963 with Cary Grant.  The artist now says it's Amy Grant instead of Charade Soundtrack.  Huh?)  But, I digress.

Hi Chris. What is the full SYNC version showing on the SYNC screen in the car? It might help if you post a photo of the SYNC version on your SYNC screen?

Unfortunately, these issues usually occur due to user error. Either a missed step in the copying/transferring of the files from computer to USB, not running the engine the entire time, removing the USB too soon, etc. etc.

Good luck.

Things to know

the USB drive needs to be formatted as exfat, or fat 32, and MBR

The file you downloaded, would uncompress as 3 file names, and one folder with the files inside , copy the 3 files and the folder to your flash drive

It is best to only have them on the USB flash drive, it might complicate things (maybe not but best practice

Is 20204 the version it said it was going to updated it to?  What were you expecting it to update to?  (no it will NOT be 3.4)

I found the problem.  When I unzipped (eh-hem), the whole folder went to the usb, not the individual files.  Also, the screen says the the update, or something, is in process.  And that is not stated anywhere on the Lincoln site that those words would show up on the screen.  Took all of 2 minutes to do the update.  Screens says the rest will occur when the vehicle is restarted.  Did that.  Now the Build shows 20204 from 19xxx

Hi Chris. Good to hear you were able to figure it out and finalize the update! ?

Don't forget the final step, which is to upload the XML file (if one was loaded onto your USB drive) back onto the Lincoln SYNC 3 update website. This notifies Lincoln which version your SYNC 3 system currently has.  If there is no XML file, then don't worry about it.

Good luck.
