jmcgliss
Just came across word that the auto industry will be affected by the removal of 3G support in 2022 by AT&T, T--Mobile, Verizon and possibly other networks. Will our 2015 MKZ lose features that rely on Wi-Fi connectivity? Our Lincoln Way app appears to allow remote connectivity and status monitoring (oil life, fuel level, tire pressure alert, and location). Does this only affect certain model years? A Popular Science article from 2020 indicated that Ford had issued no guidance in terms of vehicles affected, or remedies.
Multitask
If your car only connect via the ATT G3, then yes... those cars that used ATTs 2g or 1g lost it years ago.... and the ones that use ATTs 4G will lose it in the next few years... progress take it to the dealer to see what they can do, and if it will cost you. kramf411
I saw this from the Lincoln Way app today
Chris109
First the Vid19, then riots, now this. Will it ever end? Edited December 23, 2021 by Chris109 gfong
drolds1
I believe Ford has a customer satisfaction program (21B09) covering the upgrade. Labor is covered, parts are not. The 4G modem is $300+. This reminds me of when the original GM Onstar units became useless after analog networks were phased out. kramf411 and bbf2530

Try this: Quote Visit ford.com/support and enter your VIN to determine if your vehicle is included in a Customer Satisfaction Program. Wouldn't my Premium Care ESP warranty cover this part because under the Audio section of the warranty it says Cellular Phone, Receiver, Handset, Speaker Assembly and Antenna (Factory Installed) is covered. Thoughts?

SUGAR 3.0TT AWD
Dealer cost of the 4G upgrade kit is $267 and from what I read you MUST pay for the part in advance the labor is free if when you place the order its still working and then the 4G modem will give you a 4 to 5 year trial. Inuse it all the time to make detailed notations when something is fixed under warranty. Because when the dealer posts the repair it's vague. It's nice to have a digital detailed service history on the vehicle. I've also heard that different dealers are charging different prices. That's what I read on a different forum they advised to call around not sure how that works since the dealer will need the 3g modem back as a core not sure why. My dealer has made a ton of money off my car for repairs $4,000 in parts my cost plus labor maybe they will cut me a deal we shall see. kramf411
leftoverture
How do I know what modem is in my 2018 MKZ?
Multitask
More than likely G4, but you can also ask a dealer, or if you have Lincoln app

esqueue
Only Ford vehicles that are still under the original 4 years warranty (extended warranties do not apply) can get labor covered. All 2018 and late 2017 made Lincoln vehicles had already moved to 4G. There are lots of Ford vehicles that used 3G that are still under the 4 year warranty though. I contacted Lincoln to find this information. I wanted to upgrade to a 4G modem anyway as it offers the tire pressure monitors that give the exact PSI and the app just all around works better. kramf411
leftoverture
Yes, I really like the Lincoln Way app. I use it frequently, especially the remote start feature. But it shows me tire pressures, oil life, CEL alerts, odometer, fuel level, etc. Pretty cool.
SHW1957
Well Done, Lincoln! You have just perpetuated mediocrity into what was a distinctive customer experience. By forcing owners to pay $267 on a 4G modem for what should be standard maintenance for an Internet connection shows the Company true colors for customer loyalty. The app is not THAT useful and making me pay for keeping it available just makes me question the original purchase decision which will have huge impact on my future car purchase. Say bye-bye Lincoln. I think you'll find the same thing with all premium car brands. It's frustrating but seems to be the way of the world these days. Other than the loss of function of my Lincoln Way app, I probably won't even notice when they discontinue 4G support in the future.

Unless your next vehicle was going to be a CUV/SUV, you were going to say bye-bye Lincoln anyway. I am. No sedan=no sale. Ford/Lincoln customer since 1986. TomV
It's similar to an older car that came with a cassette radio and they don't sell cassette's anymore. They aren't going to offer a free DVD player. Just a case of outdated technology... not Ford/Lincoln's fault. leftoverture, bbf2530 and drolds1
