Went from LA to Bend Or and back Fri-Sat after Thanksgiving.

 

Been to No Carolina and back a year ago... took a week to do that.  ?

Sounds like me... what ever the last few remaining years we can travel free across US like this..  Going forward it's not going to be free as will be charged by each miles driven

AZ NM top of Texas, the 40 through OK, those were a year ago

Missouri , Ill too but coming back

Nevada I've been a lot of places, Idaho up the 15 mostly, Montana 15 to 90 then west... been to Yosemite moslty to see Old Faithful

lived in Denver, never been to the Dakota's...

My original plan was to take US 395 between I90 - I40 via Band OR.  But it was too tight for my travel time-frame. I took US 93 instead and was able to enjoy NFL games on the route casinos.

My 2014 hybrid has 165,000 on the odo.  All troublefree miles. Until NOW.  Problems with pano roof and not the console controls are whacked.  Radio volume goes all over the place. Reallly bad when it jumps to max volume. Cant even use it anymore.

Hi heyjewel. The console/audio control issue is most likely due to a failing/failed FCIM (Front Control Interface Module). It is not an unknown issue. The FCIM will need to be replaced or rebuilt.

Hi heyjewel. There are companies/individuals who rebuild/refurbish the FCIM's for far less than that. Some will rebuild yours. You ship it to them, they rebuild it and ship it back to you. Others will sell you a refurbished one.

 

Members here and on other forums have replaced theirs in that way.

 

You may want to check around for one of those companies/individuals.

Hi heyjewel. Here is a video demonstrating how to disassemble the center console and center stack area. While the instructions are aimed at upgrading MyLincoln Touch to SYNC 3 (something you may want to think about), following them will also allow you to access and remove the FCIM.

Wow thanks for that, bb.  So the screen and brain is what would be sent off for repair?  I'd need to buy a new one if I want to change to Sync 3?  What advantages are there to 3?

Next, please post the procedure to remove the pano roof sunshade! ?

Hi heyjewel. No, not the SYNC screen. That would possibly be the case if repairing/replacing SYNC (according to the underlying issue, of course).

 

In your case, it would seem you need to replace/repair the FCIM/control panels for the audio and climate controls which are malfunctioning.

 

The advantages to SYNC 3 are numerous. It is faster, more reliable, etc. etc. etc. It may be easier and you will find more information if you Google "SYNC 3 versus SYNC 2", "Advantages of SYNC 3 over SYNC 2" and other similar phrases.

Ah yes my problem is with the volume control.  Though sometimes it affects other functions.  So fix would be applied to the electronics behind the black plate below the screen. Must be the FCIM. And I'd either send that or the complete bezel to FCIM repair shop. 

If I would upgrade to Sync 3 now would be the time so I'd order new sync.

I wonder how many mkZs are in boneyards around here.  I wonder if Fusions have same hardware.

Just to get some closure on this topic - 

* I bought a service manual DVD and can now see what I need to do.

* The FCIM problem(s?) are intermittent. The volume goes crazy sometimes. I found somethin that helps.  Turns out the MyKey function can limit the maximum volume.  Perfect cause when the volume randomly hit max it was blowing my ears out.  Has worked so far.

* Sunroof shade issue.  I've found I can 'jog' the shade closer to closed by momentary pushes of the close button.  Now I have to schedule a time to pull down the headliner and fix that shade somehow.
