2020 MKZ loaner

While my 2017 3.0 was in the shop they gave me a 2020 MKZ 2.0 loaner. The loaner ran great, the 2.0 was plenty powerful and smooth and the car seemed generally more solid and smooth as compared to my 2017 and I wonder why. The loaner had a sunroof, my 2017 has the pano roof. I'm wondering if the pano roof decreases the overall rigidity of the vehicle vs a standard sunroof?

Also, noticed that the auto brake hold feature remembers the last setting so will stay on between starts whereas I have to turn it mine on each time. Is there some way to enable this feature on my car?

Hi shtaka. Yes, I have read others state that they feel the 2018's are more "solid and smooth" than the 2017's. I can not offer a reason why.

Also, it is natural that a 1 year old vehicle may feel more solid than a 4 year old vehicle. Little rattles, creaks etc begin to occur over time and we get used to some of them. Sort of how if we put on a half pound a week, we don't really notice it in the mirror, because it is happening slowly and imperceptibly to us, even though it will be 26 pounds by the end of a year. However, if a friend who has not seen us during that year stops by to visit, they are immediately going to notice that we put on quite a bit of weight, because it did not slowly sneak up on them like the weight did on us. ?

In this case, you suddenly went from a broken in 4 year old car, to a nearly new one. And the new one does not have 4 year old rattles and creaks yet.

Keep in mind I am not saying this is the only cause of rattles and creaks, but it is one of them.

Concerning the different moonroofs: Yes, the Panoramic moonroof does decrease the overall rigidity compared to the conventional moonroof. And the regular moonroof has less overall rigidity than the all steel roof models.

Concerning the "auto brake hold feature". My 2018 MKZ does not remember the previous setting either. I also must push the button after each vehicle start. Others have asked if it can be enabled on as the default, but there has never been a definitive answer.

Some have said it can be owner enabled with FORScan software, but no one provides an answer as to how. Those who have asked their Lincoln Service Department have been told their vehicles are operating as designed and it can not be enabled, despite the fact that some model years seem to be able to hold the last setting.

So I guess the moral of the story is to ask the Service Department if they can do it.

Hope your MKZ is back on the road soon and good luck.

Yes, I found it annoying in my 2017 to have to keep turning on the Auto Hold feature each time the car was restarted.  My son had a M-B that, IMO, had a better solution, i.e., after stopping,  you just pushed down further on the brake pedal to engage Auto Hold.  There was a trade-off, however.  In my 2020, the LKA defaults to off and has to be reactivated after shutoff.  I prefer it the 2020 way.  Of course, they could have just left the LKA on as well as Auto Hold.   I didn't think there was a ledger for features.?
