When I had a boat and heading into the sun, I ended up putting a black towel on the dash to 'turn off' the reflection. There's also a whopper of a reflection in the rear window from the top of the retractable sunshade.
jimflutes
This is very interesting , this is my third Z and never have noticed this reflection - until now , and sure enough it is there ! So if you just look for cars , people or objects you actually look through the reflection ( like I have done for the last 8 years ) Does happen in other make cars or trucks ? Hey Austin look what you started . Of course this is another case of " don't shoot the messenger " .
austin-tatious
It's been 3 weeks since taking off the window tint. Like jimflutes said, we find we can just look through the reflection now. It's still there all the time, but even in the conditions that produce the most intense reflection you can easily ignore it. As far as other vehicles having this issue? I think it depends on two things. First the slope of the dash. Most have a dash that is close to vertical and there is an overhang like our instrument clusters have. This will reduce the incidence of sunlight shining directly on the dash where it can be reflected by the side windows. The 17-20 MKZ dash is seriously sloped and makes me feel like there is a lot more room and better visibility in front. But that same slope allows sunlight to easily shine on it full force so we can end up with a strong reflection. Second the texture and reflectivity of the dash. Consider a flat black rough textured dash versus a glossy dash with chrome accents. There you go.
Chris109
I'm gonna be heading off to parts unknown soon, and bought some static cling tint just for the ride. Since my cat MUST sit on my lap at all times, at certain times of the day, the sun really beats down on her and she is constantly shifting positions to get out of the sun. Of course, this makes me fidget. So, I threw on some of the tint just to see what it would be like especially at night. Yikes. The reflection of the vent onto the tint made it totally impossible to see anything in the mirror. Very dangerous. When I head off to parts unknown, I will definitely just cut part of the tint so I can see the mirror.
