‘14 MKZ Hybrid Transmission issue

Recommended Posts

MKZ Hybrid Transmission leak (at 101k miles). Thought it was oil leak but confirmed coming from transmission.
Car runs fine, no gear issues or high rpms. However, it will start whining noise when idle.

leak continues- (I know it fluid must be filled by authorized dealer).
Questions: want to resolve issue the lowest cost way…could I have the tranny re-sealed (gasket) and re-fill tranny fluid? Or is this a more substantial issue requiring repair or total replacement?  I appreciate any feedback!

Hi Kona, I'm having the same loud noise Trans issue as well with my 2014 hybrid. The dealer put a "re-manufacuted Trans" in it back in 2020 covered under Fords hybrid warranty and guess what??? The same shifty Trans issue is going on again. I took it in this past Monday for a regular scheduled oil change and now they telling me again.... Trans is leaking fluid. I told them they just put a "new Trans" in 2 years ago, not new since they saved themselves money but using old parts, but they then tell me I'm out of warranty period now that expired this past March and now I need a brand new $10,000 Transmission!!! I don't think it's ironic you having same issue I think it'd something with the hybrid Trans. Did you get yours looked at?

i would like clarification on the lemon law for a transmission that has been replaced on my car by the manufacturer one time already and now needs to be replaced again. So this would be the third transmission.

same issue with noise.....no leaking fluid tho. Purchased the car from someone that just had the transmission installed by a ford dealer under the original warranty. They had it replaced in July of 2021. So its been about 2 years and one month since that time. What did you end up doing?

Hi bgood. If your vehicle is a 2017 model year: In many states, the Lemon Law only applies to the original vehicle owner, and for first 2 years/24,000 miles. And there is no automotive Lemon Law for vehicles which are well outside the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty.

Essentially, if this is a used vehicle you purchased, your recourse would be within whatever your Dealer contract states, and/or any used vehicle laws apply in your state (if any).

Let us know how you make out and good luck.
