Noisy AC?

When I first turn on the AC I can hear mechanical sounds coming from behind the vents in the dash. I assume flaps opening and closing which I would expect. My question is whether I should be hearing that noise. Seems like it should be a silent operation, especially in a Lincoln. Could it be a sign that the mechanisms are not working smoothly?

Hi shtaka. Some sounds at startup are normal. If you think yours are out of the ordinary, make a service appointment to have the system in your MKZ checked.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

The problem is that the dealer wants a $149 diagnostic fee and my bumper to bumper is up in a month. I don't want to spend the money and be told "Well, they're all like that." If I had a list of questionable issues, I would consider it. But this is the only potentially serious problem.

Hi shtaka. What "bumper to bumper" are you referring to? There is no "diagnostic fee" while still within the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Bumper to Bumper Warranty.

By bumper to bumper I meant the new car warranty. Also have CPO coverage, but new car warranty is more comprehensive. In any case, yes, there shouldn't be a diagnostic fee, but I've heard it from 2 dealers here in Mass.

I suppose SOMEBODY has to pay the dealership for their time investigating possible warranty work needs. Might make sense to charge if nothing needs doing, but on the other hand, it would also help brand loyalty if they ate 10-15 minutes time to listen to an owner's car.  Maybe call the "Lincoln Concierge" number from the owners manual? 1-800-521-4140

Hi shtaka. There is no diagnostic charge for work performed under the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Bumper to Bumper Warranty.

While I have never purchased a CPO warrantied vehicle, my understanding is that there is sometimes a diagnostic fee for work performed under that warranty, according to the particular CPO contract stipulations.

However, if your vehicle is still covered withing the 4 year/50,000 mile Bumper to Bumper Warranty, that would supersede the CPO warranty.

The two "Dealers" you spoke to either don't know all the details of your situation, or...? Who exactly did you speak to? The Service Manager? A Service Writer? Sales staff...?

Let us know the answers to those questions and good luck.
