Ambient Lighting setting

Recommended Posts

I recently noticed that I believe the ambient light setting in my 2013 MKZ are not working as selected

If I choose the darker blue from the display it shows up in the vehicle as green and when I select the green it shows up as the darker blue

I thought it used to work properly (as I always liked the darker blue) but after a recent service it was reset back to white and I was trying to reselect the blue.

Any other 2013 owners have this issue? see the attached photos to see what I am talking about

That's a new one... not had that problem...  just the normal once every few weeks reverting back to default

Yeah. Bizarre.  I also have the instantaneous fuel mileage setting not working properly, the "key fob not detected" message while the car is running issue and my rain sensing wipers occasionally make one swipe on bright, sunny days.  All minor but curious issues.

My wipers do that too. They also did it on my MKX. I put it down to the sensors sensing temperature changes as it most often happened when driving through areas with varied shade (like where there were a lot of trees).

How does Lincoln reconcile this dry wipe "feature" with the caution in the OM?

Note:  Do not operate the wipers on a dry windshield. This may scratch the glass, damage the wiper blades or cause the wiper motor to burn out. Always use the windshield washers before wiping a dry windshield.

I really don't think one swipe is going to cause any damage.  I think the manual is referencing those people who keep their wipers running long after the rain has stopped.   You know the ones!  We have all seen them.  I know I wish they could hear me yelling at them to 'turn your damn wipers off man!'.  :)

TSB: 14-0128 ISSUE:

Some 2013-2014 Fusion Titanium and MKZ vehicles equipped with ambient lighting and built on or before 5/13/2014 may exhibit the feature being intermittently inoperative after engine start-up when the headlamp switch is in the autolamp position.

ACTION:

Reprogram the Body Control Module (BCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 90.01 and higher.

While this is not your exact concern, I would start here.

They also usually have their turn signal on for miles :hysterical:  4647460161f43d0aecf38eff87d80715a6034ef7

No, I don't think one swipe will damage the wiper motor, but I do think you can scratch the glass if there's grit or something abrasive on it.  I'd just rather it didn't do it.

The ambient color change is a known issue, I think.   It is not a safety issue, so I doubt if a fix is imminent.   Mine changes from blue (where I keep it set) back to white every once in a while.

I've also had the front motion detector go off while stopped behind a car at a light.  I've tried to make a note of the conditions but have not seen a pattern.  I don't think I was drifting at the light, but sometimes the car ahead of me is.  Even though it is drifting away, the detector doesn't seem to like it.  Mine is a 2013 MKZ-H with 16K miles.

I even wonder sometimes if the sensors might get dirty or even maybe a bug is walking across them (or maybe flying in front of them)?  The radar worked admirably during a recent rainstorm, keeping me an appropriate distance (adaptive cruise control) behind the car in front of me.  Then the whole radar system shut down when we got in that after storm, dirty crap getting thrown up by the car in front of you for 5 or 10 miles.  Once we drove back into the rainstorm and everything got washed off, the radar system came back up again.

On the other point in this thread.  I have also had the occasional windshield wiper swipe.  It has happened on other (non-Ford-Lincoln) cars I have had also.  I just think that sometimes the sensor gets fooled.  Going under a bridge doesn't seem to do it, but occasionally a tunnel - depending on the lighting in the tunnel.  It also seems to get fooled occasionally by certain combinations of the sun going under very dark clouds and back out again.

I've also noticed that it is fooled by a wet windshield when you get in your car.  Like in a parking lot when it has been raining but is no longer raining.  it doesn't clean the windshield when you start the car even though ti is covered by rain.  It seems to make it's judgement based on a reading when the car starts, it doesn't see the rain until there is some sort of change in the area of the detector.

Go to love car tech...

They replaced some module in my car to deal with the ambient light issue with it changing... I thought it was something to do with a internal battery module, but I could be wrong on what it was called... anyway. It's been over a month and not had it change, so I'm hoping it is fixed now. They told me it was a know issue when I asked about it while I was getting a check engine light diagnosed.

I too have the front parking sensor go off from time to time... not sure why... not pattern to when it does it.

My ambient color changes by itself sometimes also. Noticed lately the front motion monitor goes off, yes I am sitting behind a car.??

Re front motion sensor....if that is the front parking sensor, you are too close to the car in front of you

Re front motion sensor....if that is the front parking sensor, you are too close to the car in front of you

Unfortunately that's not the case... It will go off at times when there is a car length in front of me... there is not pattern to when/why it does it. I too have imagined a "bug" of some sort crawling across the sensor as it's not something that happens often. Edited by Davisjl

Ask your service representative to reference TSB 14-0175:

Either have access to the workshop manual or Mitchell.... I was actually coming on to post this same info for everyone..

Mine has not presented this issue to me yet... we will see. I know after the update on several MKZ's and MKS, the issue was resolved.

Good luck.
