First Week Impressions

Just finishing up my first week with the 2018. I have found that it feels more solidly built than my 2014, this could simply be that it is newer and has less miles, but there are no rattles or squeaks. It drives very smoothly and quietly.

The Sync 3 is nice enough, still learning all the features so maybe not that much to report yet.

Gas mileage seems to be a bit worse than the 2014, but that might just be the AWD VS FWD. Seems to be about 1-2 mpg less, though.

A couple things have me scratching my head, though. Why did they make the cup holders smaller? Why did they reduce the number of seat memory positions from 3 to 2?

And there is one big disappointment. That is the front seats. They are not nearly as comfortable as those in the 2014. To me it feels like they increased the size of the side bolsters on the seat cushion, and this makes me feel crowded and like I'm sitting on top of the bolsters instead of between them. It's bad enough that I'm already contemplating having an upholstery shop swap in the seat cushion from a 2013-2016 model.

Lastly, the red color seems polarizing. Some people love it and others not so much. But there is no arguing it stands out in the sun!

Hi leftoverture. Happy to hear you are enjoying your 2018!

I am assuming you have already checked this, but just in case: Have you adjusted the side bolsters to a more comfortable position? Not sure about your 2014 (and perhaps it varies by trim level on the 2018's), but the side bolsters on the seat cushions/seat back, the lumbar support etc. are very adjustable on the 2018's.

Safe driving and good luck!

Now that I am home and have access to the owners manual, I'm guessing that I do not have the multi-contour seats since I'm not seeing a multi-contour on the setting menu.

Are the buttons shown below in the owners manual two separate buttons (one for lumbar and one for multi-contour) or one button that serves multiple functions?

There's one button/switch.  The difference is that the switch for the multi-contour has a button in the ('E' in the above illustration) that can be depressed to access the functions.  A pictogram of the seats will appear in the screen.  In the alternative, the multi-contour function can be accessed via the screen directly:

Press the Menu Settings icon, then Vehicle. Choose Multi-Contour Seats.
When switched on, the system displays directions for you to adjust the lumbar settings in your seat or to set the massage function.

I prefer to use the switch on the seat when I'm driving, as it doesn't require taking one's eyes off the road.

Hey BBF2530 , The side bolster adjustment is new to me , how do they work ? I just traded in my 2016 and purchased a 2018 MKZh select ( loaded ) .

Call up the pictogram of the seats (see video above), select ADJUST and scroll through the various areas of the seat.  As you do, the area will be highlighted.  Then you can adjust via the switch on the side of the seat or on the screen by touching "-" or "+."
