Opinion on Espresso or Black OEM floor mats?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, looking for opinions or experience on what other owners have done with interior colours and floor matts or coverings?

My car is a 2017 Lincoln MKZ 2.0L AWD.

Exterior colour: White Platinum Metallic-Tri-coat

Interior: Terracotta coloured perforated seats.

Accent Trim: Brown Swirl Walnut along with oem black carpet.

I live in South Western Ontario, Canada, 2 hours east of Detroit, Michigan, so 4 season weather is what I drive in. For Fall/Winter I have the Weather Tech form fitted black plastic matts for the front and stock oem carpeted matts for the rear. I am more interested in keeping the carpets clean and dry during the inclement months so colour is not a factor. I am going to order the oem Lincoln MKZ logo floor liner tray style (Part # HP5Z-5413300-DA) for the back, even though I have never had anyone in the back (yet). ?

Now to the question! ? I am going to purchase a new set of 4 oem Lincoln MKZ matts to use other than in the Winter time and I can either purchase a set of Black oem matts or Espresso colour (Same Part # HP5Z-5413300-CB need to choose colour). I am finding it hard to actually see the espresso colour even though I have searched on google. I think it is a dark brown and not a reddish brown colour like the terracotta. Not sure they would go well with the Terracotta seats and walnut trim with black carpet and trim. My other thought is to leave it like I got it as the floor carpeting is black and the factory did a nice job of contrasting the black and the terracotta colour.

Anyone else do some colour changes inside or have the Espresso colour matts or any other style that you like in your car? Any thoughts?

Included pics of driver side/passenger side and open doors view to show the mixture of Black and Terracotta colour my car has. Of course it the matts were Terracotta I would get them without a 200 word essay! ?

This is not a do or die situation for me and I am more making conversation on here as I am new and just looking to participate and of course looking forward to reading your opinions.

Thanks for reading, Greg

Hi Greg. Your car looks nice!

Personally, I would stick with the black mats, so that they simply match/blend in with the black carpet.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for the comments man, much appreciated. I'm leaning towards the black mats as well. ?

Hi leftoverture. I use the "Deluxe" carpeted mats for ~late April/May through ~December. Then swap to the All-weather/rubber mats ~December through ~late April/May.

Both sets are the factory mats, which I factory ordered with my car, and are black.

Good luck.

My car has the Terra Cotta leather/black carpet mats and carpeting combination.  I'd stick with the black all-weather mats.  I have the Lincoln all-weather mats as well, but only use them if there's snow on the ground.

Right on, appreciate the info. Lincoln did do a nice job of colour coordinating with the Terracotta and black interior as well as the other interiors. Think I will leave well enough alone! thanks again

I will second the motion to stick with black. I never thought of switching out the mats by season. I kept the Weather Techs from my old MKZ and put them in the new one but maybe I will go back and forth based on the season as well.

Thanks for the opinion, much appreciated. I have a street/strip car (under cover in last pic) that I drag race and do car shows with so I am always tinkering with practical and what looks good. As far as matts go, switching out for the seasons is just a thing for me I guess. I just picked up the MKZ (used) a couple months ago so will be using the Weathertech for sure come Winter time. If it is to crappy out I stay in, the boy's at the coffee shop wont miss me for a few days! ?

I can tell you I had the Weather Techs in our 2014 for the last 3 1/2 years in Minnesota winters and they work very well. That's why I kept them when I traded in. When I clean them up they still look new. The only thing is the driver side from the 2014 is not a perfect fit in the 2018. Something must've changed by some fractions of an inch. All the other ones fit perfect.

Always go with black all weather mats.  I had the gray Weathertech mats in my truck, since the carpets are gray.  They always looked dirty, the black mats hide those nasty scuff marks.  Sold those gray Weathertech mats as soon as my black Husky Liners arrived.

Cool, never thought of it that way. Looks like black it is for the matts. Thanks all.
