Brake pedal stiff and almost locks brakes

Recommended Posts

While on the turnpike I had to slam my brakes and a couple times after that all of a sudden my brake pedal is pushed all the way out and stiff, and when I press it, it almost locks my wheels up. Anyone experience this? After about ten minutes I got a “fix brake maintenance” or something like that

Hi Kacy. Blind Internet diagnosis is difficult at best. And for something as important as brakes, can be dangerous.

You need to immediately make a service appointment for your MKZ, so the problem can be properly diagnosed and repaired.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Wasn’t looking for a blind diagnosis, was just wondering if others have experienced it and what could be in store….I already have a mechanic lined up for Sunday

Hi Kacy. That was not meant as a shot at you. Only trying to help.

I realized what you were asking. However, this is the Internet, and we can't know the automotive expertise level of the person asking a question, so we need to cover all the bases.

And some owners do believe that an answer for everything can be found by asking others on the Internet. And some owners do not understand that a shop/mechanic is sometimes the best course of action. Especially with something as crucial to safety as brakes.

So as mentioned above, we need to cover all the bases.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Sounds good, looks like it’s the vacuum pump, waiting on the part so it’ll be fixed soon ??

thanks for the clarification but that sucks someone would take a suggestion or what happened to someone else as a real diagnosis but I get why it has to be done that way!
