monty_n_philly
I just bought a 2012 with the Navi package, but the dash speaker does not say THXII on the speakers, so I think I do have 9, but not the premium sound. 2 questions. 1. How can i findout if I have the top of line system? 2. If i replace the 6x9's and 6x8's with Pioneer/Kenwoods... would it make a big difference / worth it ($325)? Thanks ... drolds1
The THXII logo appeared on the center dash speaker. If you have it, the start-up screen will display the logo. Also, under the 'Sound' menu, there's a THXII demo button, as shown here(This an MKS but there's no difference). Further, the THXII was included with in the 102A Ultimate equipment package. You can get a facsimile of your car's original window sticker and see exactly what equipment it came from the factory with by going to http://services.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=insert your VIN here WRT to the speakers, if you have the standard audio system, replacing the speakers with quality aftermarket units will usually result in an improvement but I don't know anything the about that system. Maybe consult a car audio shop. Edited August 25, 2014 by drolds1
monty_n_philly
Well i definitely do not have the THXII surround sound. I am just wondering if changing the main 6 speakers are worth it? It wil cost me about $300, but i noticed last night and this morning that my radio quiets on its own for now reason. I gotta get that checked. drolds1
Is the radio quieting down when you slow down and come to a stop? If so, the speed compensating volume(SCV) control might be engaged. See pg. 34 of your owner's guide. Robert Iggy Cerami
monty_n_philly
I have that SCV off, it just will quiet down for a second and the USB will stop working sometime. I am dropping it off in the shop tonight, my keypad does not work. So I will have them look at my radio as well. I am just wondering if I get Pioneer speakers for the 4 in the door and the 2 for the rear, will it make that big of a difference? Cliffh44
I've been "considering" replacing the speaker in my 12 MKZ as well. Overall, the system sounds okay at lower volume levels but there is definitely a point where the sound starts to crackle at the higher volume levels.Personally, I wouldn't spend $300+ on Pioneer/Kenwood speakers as I don't believe they will make that much difference over the factory speakers.Yes, the sound would be somewhat better but is the cost really worth it? "If" I actually decide to replace my speakers, I'll be replacing them with Rockford Fosgate speakers. I'm debating the addition of a sub enclosure in the trunk.I already have Orion HCCA amps I removed from my Ford Expedition but I'm asking myself... do you really want to go down this road again? Cliff, I got ya.. I feel the same... i dont have an amp or anything for the trunk.. it was going to be bout 1k for all new speakers and 1 10" sub and amp in trunk.. i havent done that (total system) in a long time.. and this MKZ is my last car for years.. no more Negative Role Over... plus with AWD, these Philly winters can suck it... I m thinking about it.. just wondering how big the difference would actually be.... that is what sucks.... your right, at high volume, the speakers just don't do it.. but it seems the radio has the wattage, but the speakers cant take the power....
