New from Palm Coast

Well am I glad I found this forum

I have a 2013 MKZ that I purchased last year (new) and have been pulling my hair out with problems and false alarms. The dealer is ready to throw in the towel. Just wanted to say hello to all. This forum seems to have a lot more activity than another one I found. That one just was patting each other on the back with sales hype, not very helpful.

Let me get my notes together and post a summary because the list is just way too long from the last year or so.

I would be interested in reading about your car problems. In recent years, I have purchased new a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr, a 2010 MKZ and a 2013 MKZ Ecoboost without any problems. Haven;t even changed a light bulb in any of them. Ordered my last 2013 MKZ in August 2012 and took delivery on April 3, 2013. A very long time for a new edition of the MKZ to be deliverd, but so far the new technology has been nothing less than perfect. Looking forward to hearing your story.

OK.....let me see if I can keep this as brief as possible as the list is 4 pages long. The car has the 2.0 ecoboast (non-hybrid) with the 102A equipment package and technology package and moonroof

Purchased the car and delivered in mid Aug 2013

In the first two weeks of ownership I had these unwarranted warnings “Collision Warning Not Available”; “Front Camera Low Visibility” and “Stability Control”, leaving the dealership after repairs, the cover of the passenger side mirror just fell off and was damaged

Returning to dealer to have new mirror housing installed on 9/3/13 "Check adaptive headlights" warning came up, dealer told me they (engineering) knew of the problem but did not have a solution right now (they had the car for 1 week trying to clear issue). I picked up the car on 9/10 and went to dinner. After dinner, leaving my parking spot, the back up alarms came up (expected) but then would not shut off even after pulling away. Tried turning car off and restarting but the beeping continued until I got home and backed into my garage,. That seemed to trigger the software and it stopped when I put the car in park. "Collision Warning also came on during drive home with nothing in front of me.

The following morning pulled out of the garage and sat in driveway in park and all of a sudden the "vehicle approaching from the right" - No vehicles or anything else there (open lot to my right). Delivered car back to service and they kept it another week.

On 9/30/13 another warning that "Adaptive Cruise Control not available" Cleared itself next time I started the car.

10/1 noticed passenger window "One Touch Up" feature not working, also driver side not working

10/10 Repeat of the adaptive speed control problem and window not working again, now rear windows also not working with one-touch from driver position

10/15 Adaptive speed control not available 2x (worked inbetween)

10/16 Right side mirror housing loose again (saved it from damage (bad clip)

10/20 Adaptive speed control not available again

10/25 Repeat of Adaptive speed control both front and rear windows on passenger side not working with one-touch

11/27 Adaptive speed control continues to be "Not Available 3-4 week, window continue to be intermitant with one-touch, not getting sqeaks from truck lid and driver seat belt at pillar connection

1/16/14 returned for service of squeaks , adaptive speed control and window issues again, adaptive headlamp issue and 1st oil change. I also had recently been working with SYNC over the phone about setting up the WiFi hotspot feature and the told me to go to the dealer as I cannot not activate and smartphone was on the approved list

1/30/14 Returned to dealer as they were having an "IT specialist" coming in to see what the WiFi issue was. He was able to connect in my car with his phone. They then brought out another 2013 MKZ and then my phone worked in that car but not in mine. Back to Lincoln/Ford engineering

Feb 2014 dealer reinstalled SYNC patch that was previously done to help solve issue to eliminate a download corruption possibility - no change

emailed dealer ship in March and April as to status - no response

Called dealership in April and May as to updates - nothing new

6/30/14 Sent email via SYNC online to Lincoln Corporate asking them when I could expect a resolution as this is going on for months.

They assigned a special case number and car was set for service of the WiFi and other issues on 7/7

7/11 - called to pick up car and found main display blanked out after about 60 seconds while trying to set up the vehicle.- left vehicle at dealer

7/14 - Corp[orate called me to ask if I was happy with the repairs. They were embarrassed to learn that I never left the dealership with my vehicle.

7/16 returned to pick up vehicle and found AC now was not functioning and only blowing heat

7/18 Corporate informed me they were going to do a good faith review of service history, they also extended warranty to 6 years/100 miles

7/21 Mailed start of lemon law claim for electrical/computer issues

7/22 Picked up car and WiFi hotspot now functioning, still getting false Collision warnings

7/23 False collision warnings continue, squeak in seat belt continue, front storage bin now will not open unless forced, back up alarm warning got stuck again beeping all the way home.

8/5 Started vehicle at 2:30 PM and outside temperature was -40F so AC refused to come on even though actual outside temp was about 85F. After about 20 minutes the outside temp indicator climbed up to a point I could turn on the AC

8/6 Was leaving home at 5:20AM for work and AC was now set to an interior temp of 00F and I could not adjust it to a normal range. Tried restarting car, no change - Cleared itself later that day

8/9 When I started the car, the start up limps and chimes kept repeating themselves even though the car was running fine and continued to do so after selecting drive. Restarted vehicle to clear

8/12 dropped off vehicle for service appointment and was told no loaner available but they would call when they had one. False collision warning, seat belt squeak continues

Never heard back from them on loaner (this was the service manager)

Vehicle is set for a final repair under lemon law here in Florida on 8/28, if not repaired, I will be asking for restitution under the law.

And they had the nerve to ask me for a good rating in their surveys

This is my first Lincoln but not my first Ford nor is it my first luxury sedan (former BMW and Lexus owner)

The funny thing is that I really liked the car but am seriously disappointed with the QC and the continual problems and false warnings.

Rant done

Wow! I know that Version 1.0 stuff could have little buggies but you have passed that by a long shot. To me seems as though you are in "Lemon Law" territory.

So far with my 2014 (delivered in April 2014) I've found no real problems.

Joe

Glad to hear that about yours. I've already qualified phase 1 of the lemon law in Florida, and have filed the avadavat just waiting on their final repair (or not) next week or so.and then we'll see what happens.

BTW I am an old Bronx boy (I see that you are in Mt Vernon) and used to go up to MT Vernon and surrounding areas quite a lot in my teens.

Yeah its been a battle but like I said I love the car when it acts right.

Anyway, they went through my list but missed two items. I brought this to their attention and rather then invoke the next step of the lemon law, I gave them one more chance to correct the issues.

The one that really puzzles them is the ambient lighting issue where when I set it to green it shows up blue and if I set it to the dark blue it shows up green. I stated another thread in the lighting section to see if anyone has this problem because unlike many of my other issues, this one is always there and doesn't change every time I start the car.

@Tucker as far as my handle, it was given to me as my nickname many years ago....long story and for another time.

May the force be with you

Wow, hopefully they get all that resolved soon!

My 2012 have had very minor little quirks that pop up (a few false "vehicle approaching" errors when standing still, and a couple blind spot sensor errors), maybe once every few months, if that. But not to the extreme of what you are mentioning.

You seem to have a lot of patience, which is good. I'm sure Lincoln and the dealership are going to do what they can to get everything resolved. I can tell you from working in the  customer service field myself, that I am 100% more willing to work with and help people that are nice and patient with us.

Having been in the customer service of my trade, I  learned a long time ago to treat people as I would like to be treated, I know it is not the dealerships fault but I need to motivate Lincoln engineering.

Yes they have corrected a bunch now but still have 2 nagging issues.....going back Monday to get an update and maybe closer to a resolve.

It is terrible that you are having all these problems. I have a 2014 MKZ Hybrid and my problems are barley worth mentioning. It seems like you got a raw deal but I still  believe that this is a great vehicle. I bought the top trim package with the regular moon roof. The only options I skipped were the technology package, the panoramic roof, the inflatable seatbelts and the rear sunscreen.  My only regret is that I probably should have gone for the technology package. Anyhow, I am 45 years old and have owned 3 Lincolns (including this one) and 4 Cadillacs. This is by far the best car I have ever owned. The build quality, ride quality and overall level of excellence is without a doubt the best I have ever experienced. I hope that you are able to work the bugs out and keep your MKZ because when all thing fall into place, it is truly a remarkable vehicle.

Wow, that list of issues certainly is long...When they take it back due to the Lemon Law, you should really consider another MKZ as a replacement. The car itself is simply outstanding.

I've had my MY13 3.7 for 9 months now and didn't have a single issue with it. Initially, I was a bit concerned since it was the first MY of this car - but to my surprise, everything worked out great.

And I really mean no issues. Not even a single freeze-up of the nav-unit. Nothing. It almost sounds too good to be true but it really is.... ;)

Update,

Well they finally fixed the last problem, it only took a year to fix the most annoying creaking sound from the driver's seat belt at the pillar post. They also found the Ambient light switcheroo problem in a APIM (sp?) module as it was also replaced (I think this was the 2nd time for this module. Let's see how it runs for a week. Ford Corp is supposed to complete their evaluation next week on the lemon law claim.

I don't understand your logic in taking another MKZ.Never had the NAV freeze up

What packages do you have?

Mine is Equipment Group 102A +Technology Package

What I'm saying is that your extensive list of issues with the MKZ is everything but typical for this car. You obviously got a lemon but that does not mean that the MKZ in general tends to have many issues. Since the MKZ itself is an awesome vehicle, you should consider replacing this lemon with a different MKZ - in case they decide to take it back.

I mentioned the Nav.-System because after the initial launch of MyFord/MyLincoln Touch, the system was commonly slow/unresponsive and freeze-ups were quite common. I, however, never experienced any of these issues.

My 2013 MKZ is equipped with the Preferred Equipment Group 103A, the Technology Package, V6 engine  and the Panoramic Roof (my favorite feature).

Thanks, maybe I will consider it. We'll see what happens this week.

This is the first time in my life (age 63) that every manager and director in the service department knows me by first name, even the gal that handles the loaners keeps my license and insurance info handy :-)

Update, Lincoln has approved me for  repurchase/replacement vehicle. I am leaning to a replacement as they already have stated that it would be a 2014....loads of details to work out but I think I am on my way. Lincoln has been very fair about this so far.....I wonder if I can talk them into a 2015 for a fair upcharge.....we'll see.

There are virtually no changes between the 2014 and 2015. The only difference is it would be one model year younger.

I have gone through a Ford repurchase. I ended up with a completely different model. The process went very smooth. They couldn't refund the state sales tax, but they made it up with incentives. The car I turned in was supposed to have been crushed (according to Calif. law) but a year later popped up in another state. I was contacted by an attorney who represented a client who was suing Ford. He had many of the same issues I had with the car.

Update,

Picked up my new 2014 Hybrid yesterday turning in the 2013 MKZ under the lemon laws. Ford really stepped up to the plate and made me a great deal on the new car.

After that list of problems, I'm glad you kept your head and more so that Ford took care of things for you.  I hope this works out better for you.  Let us see some pictures; that'd be cool.
