leftoverture
There's a dealer here with a 2016 with the 3.7. They have had it a long time and dropped the price to the point it's now a really good buy. Though if I were to upgrade I really want the 400hp I'd get with a 2017 or newer. But the 2016 tempted me briefly being such a good deal but honestly, the transmission in my 2014 operates so pre-historically I think it could prevent me from buying another Mkz. Seriously, every time I drive my wife's BMW I am reminded what a good, modern transmission should shift like. Seamlessly and in the right gear all the time. It truly is a night and day difference compared to the Mkz. I would say the transmission in our Mkz operates closer to that in the 1983 Escort I used to own than what a good modern car should be. I love the Mkz otherwise. It is sad that Ford couldn't master the automatic transmission by 2014. They seem to be years behind other makes. ? bbf2530
Hi leftoverture. Not sure if you were looking for any advice/comments, or only venting? If you are looking for advice/comments: If you can swing the cost, I would highly recommend going with the 3.0T engine in a 2017+. In most cases, if you choose a correctly optioned, AWD trim level, you will get not only the 400hp engine, but also the "Drivers Package" with the Torque Vectoring AWD system and some other goodies not available on the pre-2017's. I can also add that I have no issues or complaints concerning the transmission in my 2018 AWD 3.0T. Just something else to think about. Let us know how you make out and good luck. If you were only venting...just ignore what I said. My wife usually does. ? Edited January 30, 2021 by bbf2530
leftoverture
I'm not really looking to upgrade but that has never stopped me before when the right deal comes along. I did find a 2017 just like you describe. It literally was everything I would want, I put it on my watch list hoping the price would drop but it sold before it got low enough to entice me. The 2016 I mentioned only has 27k miles and is fully loaded and the price has dropped significantly. They can't seem to sell it. That's when I like to jump on the deal but I think I will wait for a 2017 or newer. But I could end up going BMW, too, when the time comes. My wife's 228 is pretty nice. leftoverture
I will say.... on the positive side... that I'm approaching 66k miles with not one single repair being needed.
leftoverture
Thankfully, it seems the 2016 I had my eyes on has sold. They lowered the price again and it became a deal almost too good to pass up. Now they have a couple 2017s on the lot...let the price watching begin. Zondedo
If you decide to buy another BMW make sure it has a long warranty. German engineering is horrible, complicated and expensive to repair. I work with the BMW engineering team and see it first hand. They don’t understand the concept of design for serviceability. Yes, this I believe. Our 228i is covered by an extended warranty for that very reason. Sure is a nice car though. Definitely a far superior transmission to the Lincoln but the BMW requires premium fuel to make roughly the same power as the Ecoboost on regular.
