Abbby
2010 MKZ. Working on changing the PTU fluid and took off the plastic guard under engine that has insulation on it. Is this necessary? Seems it will just help heat everything up on the lower end. I am thinking about leaving it off.
bbf2530
Hi Abby. No, it is needed. Reinstall it. Good luck.
Abbby
Seems it will hold the heat in and make things hotter.
bbf2530
Hi Abby. You are mistaken, and you should reinstall it. Good luck.
leftoverture
Yes. Your car is designed to have this cover in place. It actually assists with airflow under the vehicle and in the engine compartment. Your vehicle will be less efficient without this cover

I need a replacement. Hi jm. There are at least several ways to replace it. Among them, in approximate ascending order of cost are: -Check your local Salvage Yards for wrecked Fusions (a used one). -Check CarParts.com (a used one). -Any of the numerous online Lincoln/Ford Parts sellers (new). -The parts Department of your local Lincoln/Ford Dealers (new). Let us know how you make out and good luck. Edited December 13, 2020 by bbf2530
jm98
Thanks bbf2530. I am not sure if engine guard is broken or missing some screws on it as I can see part of it being scratched in middle due to county road with deep roadbeds from heavy-duty trucks using road as short cut. Anyway would broken engine guard or one with missing screws show engine check light? It's been very cold and rainy here and seeing two items: - Fuel inlet message - check engine - new tires as of today as one of tire lost air from road hazard and had to drive at 15mph to near Firestone for tire change Edited December 14, 2020 by jm98

You're very welcome. No, a broken or loose underbody tray would not cause a CEL by itself. However, it is possible you caused other damage if you hit something hard enough to damage/dislodge the underbody tray. I am not saying you did, as that would be impossible to diagnose over the Internet. Only that it is possible (although not all that probable). Too bad you did not think to take a look while it was up on the lift for the tire. Perhaps have a local shop put it on a lift and check it out. Or have Firestone do it if you need to return for the tire. Perhaps you only need to replace a few fasteners. As far as the CEL; Go to, or call first, your nearest big box auto store (i.e. AutoZone etc). Most of them will read DTC's for free and give you a printout. Keep us updated and good luck.
