hjski
My interior lights will not turn on when I open the door. The lights do work as after I get in I can manually turn them on and off. There must be something I am missing. I looked through the owner's manual and also did not see anything in there hjski

hjski
Where would I find the door switch? Thanks for your help
drolds1
Ford hasn't used pin switches in the door jamb for a long time. The switch is in the door latch mechanism
hjski
Is this something I should be able to see? Would it be something that is broke or just switched back on hjski
drolds1
No. It's inside the door. There's no switch. There's an example here. However, before tearing the door apart, there can be other causes for this, such as wiring. You indicated that the lights don't go on when "the door" is opened. Do you mean just the driver's door or all of them? Does the "Door Ajar" warning come on when you open a door? Have you checked all pertinent fuses? hjski
The lights do not come on for any of the doors but the door ajar comes on for all of them. I thought maybe there was dimmer switch that was off or something thanks for helping hjski

Since it does not seem to be a door switch issue, just thinking out loud here: Do the interior light switches located on the roof console/sunglasses holder have an "Off" or "Dark" position on your 2011 Hybrid? And I assume the interior dimmer located next to the headlight switch is not turned off (although I don' think that would disable the interior lights)? Keep us updated and good luck. hjski
The map light near the sunglasses holder, they are what I would think should be coming on. There is just an on and off switch. Two up front and 2 in the back seat. Now down at the bottom left there are 4 buttons, one to pop the trunk, one to change the ambient light color, another is a dimmer for dash lights and the forth I am not really sure what it is, maybe that one is adjusting the darkest of the ambient lights . thanks for helping me think this through hjski

There were vehicles I owned in the past the have 3 switch positions for the interior lights. Does your switch happen to have "ON", "OFF" and "DOOR" position with the latter being in the middle position?
hjski
I am not seeing any switches like that. I also thought there would be something like that but I am not seeing it. I includes some pictures of the map lights and at the dimmer controls. Those light go on when I hit those buttons but not when I open the door hjski
bbf2530
Hi hjski. Still don't have a solution to your original interior light issue. However, your Owners Manual states that the switches below the trunk release are for the Ambient Lighting (as you guessed previously). The switch to the right turns them on/off. The one to the left controls intensity/brightness.

Does your switch happen to have "ON", "OFF" and "DOOR" position with the latter being in the middle position? No. That generation of MKZ did not have that option. I had a 2010 and 2012, so I didn't raise that possibility. The 2nd-gen cars have a "darkness" switch for the interior lights. Handy if you're on a nighttime stakeout.? kramf411
kramf411
I would think you have already scoured the vehicle configuration/settings on the instrument panel, am I right?
hjski
Yes, I have looked at that and also the owners manual but I have not seen anything. Now there maybe something I missed. Just to recap all of the map lights do work by the on off switches and the door ajar sensors are working
hjski
I saw something similar in a ford edge posting where they were saying there is a factory setup of police mode where the interior light do not go on. I would not think this type of car a Lincoln hybrid would ever be a police car but I thought i would post it. hjski

I would think that even police cars have a switch to turn the overhead light(s) on when needed.
