Keypad question

Hello.  I recently purchased a 2018 Lincoln MKZ reserve 3.0T AWD.  Unfortunately, it only came with one key fob.  Try as I may, I was unable to locate the infamous key code on the smart junction box.... not for lack of effort!  I ordered an oem fob and had it cut/programmed at Batteries Plus.  New key fob works great.  I tried to use the 2 key fob method to locate the factory door code with no success.  According to my settings I have 3 admin keys (I assume one of those is the key that I never received).  Any reason that the 2 current keys I have would not work when performing the code retrieval?  Thank you all.

Each key fob has a unique code programmed into it. If anyone copies the code to make a new fob, that's what is called cloning a key. That kind of key is not unique compared to the other key fob it's a copy of. The car will only see those as the same key, so they only count as one key, for any of the processes to program other keys or retrieve the keypad code etc.

Hi tony. First, I forgot to say welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum in your other post. So...welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum!

Okay, on to business. As I replied in your other post about this (and CDW also mentioned here), the new fob was likely "cloned", not newly programmed. So it is a direct copy of your old fob, not a second/separate fob. Therefore, the system sees your two fobs as being one. You will likely need to take your fobs to a Lincoln/Ford Dealer to have them properly programmed.

Also, please do not double post questions. It makes it much easier for other members to help you when all replies and information are in one place. Therefore, this thread will be locked and you can follow up in the other thread if necessary.

Keep us updated and good luck.
