WHITEY064 Posted October 13, 2020 Share Posted October 13, 2020 Hey everyone. I'm pretty new here. I recently purchased a 2017 MKZ 3.0. I was hoping some might know the answer. I'm curious to know if tips can be installed through the stock (fake) exhaust ports on the rear bumper. I've seen a few on this site but it looks to be an aftermarket plastic piece on the bottom of the bumper. maybe I'm wrong. And if anyone knows the best deletes and or mufflers to get to increase exhaust sound. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. Glad to be a part of the MKZ fam. The usual suspects on aftermarket exhausts/mufflers are Borla, Magnaflow and Flowmaster. This part is fact: Borla is considered to be the highest quality, but you pay for the quality. This part is based on the posts and opinions of others: For some who have switched to Magnaflow and especially Flowmaster, there is a bit too much uncomfortable "drone" at highway speeds. I am not sure if any now make a "plug and play" type exhaust system for the MKZ. So you would likely need to purchase a muffler they recommend and fabricate the exhaust connections. As far as extending "tips" through the exhaust ports in the rear bumper: If you can fit something through the opening, you can do it. As long as it is not making contact with the trim or bumper (rattles/possible heat damage). However, just my opinion: Having an exhaust tip poking through that rounded/rectangular exhaust port may not look very good. Also, if you do a Forum search, you can find many previous threads concerning new mufflers and exhaust systems, which other members have discussed. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Alternatively the Fusion sport kits will probably work with some modifications to the tips. Personally I like sleepers so I am, leaving mine stock plus I wouldn't want to drone my neighbors out while using remote start in the winter. CDW6212R Posted October 14, 2020 Share Posted October 14, 2020 Aftermarket mufflers are all so loud because of the missing feature of all stock mufflers, the Helmholtz chamber. If you want a quieter exhaust, but more airflow, try to find a larger system of parts, and include an OEM muffler. The late Mustang mufflers are very popular to buy and build an exhaust around. Any late model car that you like the sound of could be a good source for a muffler that flows okay and won't be too loud, or drone. However, I would only add that you need to remember a dual turbo 3.0L V-6 will never sound like a V-8, no matter what muffler you put on it...even with the muffler/resonators from a V-8 installed. So keep your expectations realistic. ? I know that was not being inferred, only want to make the information known. Let us know how you make out and good luck. But like you said, unrealistic. I was looking for something a little “meaner” when I romp on it. To be honest I may end up leaving the exhaust alone and just adding some tips like the picture below. Ahh, the Hasselhoff Chamber..... I absolutely hate the sound of the 3.0 and 3.5 ecoboost V6 engines. Though our mufflers are tanks, I'll take the quite any day.
