14 MKZ - SYNC2 - SYNC3 Bezel

Greetings, In the middle of swap and wanted to see if SYNC2 bezel will fit on SYNC3?  The kit did not come with SYNC3 MKZ bezel. The SYNC 3 is from 2018 Escape. This is going to be bummer.

Hi jm98. Although I have certainly not seen them all, any the SYNC w/MyLincolnTouch to SYNC 3 retrofit/how-to videos I have seen show all the center stack controls and bezel being swapped over to the 2017+ SYNC 3 controls and modules. To be honest, I am doubtful (but not 100% sure) that the old SYNC w/MyLincolnTouch control modules will even work with SYNC 3. And if it does not, you would need to change all the climate/audio controls and bezel to the 2017+ pieces

To my knowledge, you would be best off, and may be forced to, change the entire control system of the center console stack. That includes changing from your old SYNC w/MyLincolnTouch climate and audio controls over to the traditional know systems which were introduced with SYNC 3 for the 2017 model year. Trust me, it was an unexpected booby trap for you, but you will be happy in the long run that you did.

If one of our tech experts has information to the contrary, I am sure they will jump in.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Figured it out. The Ebay seller suggested to cut bezel as attached here.  This corner was in the way of yellow adapter cable.

See attached bezel cut.  There is no information on Youtube on cutting part of bezel.  It seems only Ebay sellers know about it.

I just swapped the system over and put most of stuffs back together.  My SYNC 3 works out of box in my MKz.  I tried AC controls/Seat controls/Radio.

Only issue I am working on is USB power connector in center console is not direct plug and trying to see if my eBay seller will provide one that works.  I will have more photos here later.

Hi jm. Congratulations and great job! ?

Have you checked yet to see what SYNC version is loaded in the modules you purchased? And to see if you can use the Lincoln Owners SYNC 3 update website to check for available updates?

Keep us all updated and best of luck!

Yes, that will be an issue.  As I have SYNC 3 V3.1 on it and don't have access to apps.  I like to install Waze if possible and may be podcast apps.  However i found it to be difficult to upgrade unless you can get usb download and install. As my MKZ is still factory registered as SYNC2 and Ford site think I still have SYNC2 installed.

The builtin WiFi works but can't seem to download SYNC updates over WIFI for some reason. keeps timing out.  Not sure why but will figure it out one of these days.

Get a VIN from a wreck that has Sync 3 in it... then you can use it to get the updates.... there are other ways, but this would be most legit. (if it could be considered that .. hehe)

The pre 2017 bezel controls work perfectly fine with Sync 3.

The old style USB hub  works with Sync 3 (AA functions via lower USB port) but an error will pop-up on screen at start up (due to not having an Apple chip).  Carplay will not function as it requires the Apple chip be present in the hub.

The old style USB hub 'kind of' works with Sync 3 (AA does function via lower USB port) but an error will pop-up on screen at start up and AA may disconnect after a period of time.

Hi Slee. Just double checking: You are saying that the old, pre-2017 MyLincolnTouch controls work with 2017+ SYNC 3, which has traditional knobs and buttons?

Yes the old FCIM sliders and touch buttons work fine with a Sync 3 APIM.  That's how my 2015 MKZ is setup at the moment.

I do want to upgrade to the newer FCIM.  The non-touch is more ergonomic.

Also, the old hub works perfectly with Android Auto (bottom USB port only).   It supposedly has slow charge (0.5a) vs 1.0A on newer ones.  The old hub doesn't have an apple chip which is what causes the 'USB hub' error on start-up.  Obviously, the old hub won't work with Apple Carplay.
