jm98
Greetings, Looking to upgrade my 14 Mkzh SYNC 2 to newer 17+ SYNC 3. I seen SYNC 3 kit prices between $670 up to $1300. Any experiences with cheaper one from Chyna? Some kits now sell for $900 range not sure if it's going to go down any further. My current budget is $500 and under due to age of my vehicle. Please post here any deals here.
Multitask
I personally would not trust the China ones... they are known (maybe not all) to fudge what you are getting. ((as an example) they will tell you it's a APIM from a 2017 that came with with 3.4, but that year would not have) In the long run you are better to go to a wrecking yard and get one from there and then either install it yourself, or pay to get it in and pay the fee to up date the 'software'. There are company's that sell it all ready to go, but for $1400 or more... kinda worth it if you don't want to mess with it., other than the install car-part.com and (tho it's getting old, but it is still full of good info and a lot of recent stuff http://www.2gfusions.net/showthread.php?tid=3881 Dan knows his stuff
jm98
I am ruling out Chyna sellers. Any experience with the one from California sellers around $950 with all kit needed for upgrade? Also, would it be just better to wait for SYNC 4.0 and see what's out there in market?

Upgrading to SYNC 4, if it will ever be eventually possible at all (let alone a reasonable cost), will entail replacing much more than a SYNC 3 upgrade. And it obviously will not be available as a factory upgrade, only as a third party/aftermarket upgrade (again, if ever at all). The truth is, no one can answer, if/when/how/the cost for a SYNC 4 upgrade, as SYNC 4 has not even/barely been released. Anyone who states otherwise is simply taking a wild guess. So if you really wish to upgrade, I would recommend finding the hardware to upgrade to SYNC 3, 3.3 or 3.4. Good luck. Edited October 2, 2020 by bbf2530 Added information. I shopped around for a while... found good prices (at that time) and jumped in... 1st time I think I spent 800 to go from S2 to S3, that included the APIM , ACM (radio), USB port... programming... but I was doing a 2013 Then my 2018 was cheaper because I did less... I just went from S3 without Nav to S3 with Nav... spent about 300 SYNC 4 seems to be out of the question, at least until Ford or a 3rd part say something different... don't hold your breath... "IF" it happens, it will be years before someone cracks the code (so to say) check ebay, and car-part.com for deals... todays prices are not as good as 1-2 years ago... more because those places seem to want to make more $$$ now. jm98
Thank you! I will keep checking eBay for complete Sync3 kits. US only sellers.

Multitask
The only time it would matter is how new the hardware is. Some can only get to 3.0-xxxxxxx , newer ones go to 3.3 or 3.4-xxxxxx it just depends on what year and model it came out of. Beyond all that, you want to make sure you are configuring it for your vehicle.... as for instance, a Hybrid APIM would work in a non-Hybrid, but you would see features that you can't use (and VV)
rubyinla
My bet is Ford gets these things from china in the first place. Also thinking that the price differences between AMZN & eBay are the fees AMZN charges and AMZN Prime returns, which don't apply with these vendors. Sync 2 to Sync 3.4 $940 and they program it with u'r VIN. 91 reviews and 5 stars. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XKTBDS9/ref=cm_sw_su_dp This seems to be from the same vendor, or at least using the same photos. $630 instead of $940. You pay return postage. $300 cheaper can pay for a bunch of returns if need be. https://www.ebay.com/i/184427316499?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-213727-13078-0&mkcid=2&itemid=184427316499&targetid=4580840328168103&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=&poi=&campaignid=403206343&mkgroupid=1235851284533738&rlsatarget=pla-4580840328168103&abcId=9300372&merchantid=51291&msclkid=9a099cab43991d5c36c8c344e6bb4c4e This one is stamped with FOMOCO on the computer as well. https://www.amazon.com/MyFordTouch-Capacitive-Touchscreen-Interface-Navigation/dp/B0831FJYPD/ref=pd_sbs_201_2/133-5260947-0473925?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0831FJYPD&pd_rd_r=76e29fef-06d4-4bde-89a0-17f4ecd36355&pd_rd_w=tz9BM&pd_rd_wg=PUWnN&pf_rd_p=ed1e2146-ecfe-435e-b3b5-d79fa072fd58&pf_rd_r=A2VT5S4H3G7N59FT58NX&psc=1&refRID=A2VT5S4H3G7N59FT58NX This one is $800 without navigation. The web site is nicer, but it's still in chinese english. https://intelligent1tech.com/products/2016-lincoln-mkz-sync-3-upgrade-for-mylincoln-touch?_pos=1&_sid=7bd3ce240&_ss=r Those seem to be the options short of spending $1800, which is absurd on a 4 year old vehicle. Suggestions? Productive comments? Next is to 3.0 to 3.4 update to research. Edited January 1, 2021 by rubyinla
rubyinla
Looks like Sync 4 will be coming out in the new E-Mustang. Just as an FYI for others interested in our SYNC discussions: SYNC 4 is definitely not and will not be "backward compatible" to any SYNC 3/3.3/3.4 equipped vehicle. Good luck. Like what was written in the article. Personally, I'm just investigating the upgrade from 2 to 3. And even that borders on the line, financially, as an upgrade to a 4 year old car. rubyinla
A fellow over in the Expedition forum seems to have a handle on the 3.0 to 3.4 conversions if you are interested. Even though it seems that the 3.4 has a different APIM it will still work. This link is his assessment of what has changed between 3.0 and 3.4 Post #102. https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/update-all-versions-of-ford-sync-3-to-the-latest-sync-3-4.42507/page-11 Cyan-Labs seems to have a handle on converting from 3.0 to 3.4. bbf2530
Hi gang. Just the usual FYI warning on this type of non-factory SYNC "upgrade": Before performing this type of non-factory approved "upgrade"/modification, keep in mind that if our car is still within the 4 year/50,000 mile New Car Warranty or a Lincoln Protect Extended Service plan, Lincoln can/may/will deny any SYNC related warranty claims. And SYNC is tied into many other sub-systems. Not telling anyone what to do with their own vehicles, just making the possible ramifications known in advance for those who care about warranty coverage. Good luck to everyone with whatever you decide to do. Edited January 2, 2021 by bbf2530

Yes, although some of us have been involved in these SYNC upgrade discussions for some time, not everyone reads the articles and links. So as I stated, "Just as an FYI for others interested in our SYNC discussions:..." So I was confirming what you stated you had read, in order to help others. Hope that makes the reason for my reply more understandable. Happy New Year and good luck. Edited January 2, 2021 by bbf2530

rubyinla
And so we begin. Just ordered a Sync 2 to Sync 3.4 kit today for $629 plus tax. It's from china. Yeah, where else would it be from since nothings made in America that goes into a Ford / Lincoln any more? The vendor in china that got my china virus $600 ? had over 5000 ok reviews in Ebay, so we'll see how it goes. https://tinyurl.com/y3gbmlgb The BIGGEST hassle was PayPal. I had no clue all these vendors wanted to be paid thru PP. Worked fine once I figured out the system and opened a PP account. rubyinla
So far, so good. Sent them a message this afternoon via Ebay with my VIN. Got this message back that was sent around 10am Saturday morning from somewhere in china. "Dear friend, thank you for your order and email. We will arrange the shipment as soon as possible. Please pay attention to receiving it. Please contact us if you have any problem. Best wishes." Edited January 9, 2021 by rubyinla
