Wont start. CPU issues?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a 2015 base MKZ.   Car will not start.  Battery has juice.  Lights and accessories are turning on.  This is a keyless/pushbutton start.  When I push the start button nothing happens but a small click.  It is not the click of a starter.

Display say full accessory power and to check manual.  I dont have the manual.  I disconnected the battery and let is sit for a few minutes.  Reconnected and it still wont work.  I'm hoping you all can help me.

This may not help you with your particular issues but what you are experiencing is consistent with what I just experience on my friend's vehicle.

Literally just yesterday, he called me to jump start his car. When I came to check, the car exhibits the same signs you mentioned.

Being a honda accord, the starter was buried deep. It took a couple of taps (hard hits on occasion) to the starter to coax it to crank.

3 days prior, the car was already showing signs wherein it will take a couple ignition turns before it cranks.

Is this the first time, it will not start?

Here is a link to the manual

Good luck!

This is the first time.  I really think it may have to do with something else.  It seem like it isn't even engaging the starter.  In fact when I tried a remote start it is doing this beeped that is out of the norm.  I'm thinking it may be the security system being engaged.  Even when entering the car it is making some relay sounding noises I've never heard.

Hi Jdurbin. Another possibility: There can be enough power in the battery to run the lights, accessories etc, but still not enough to do anything when you push the start button. Therefore, I would start with having the battery checked, especially if it is the original factory battery.  I realize you feel the battery is okay, but how old is it and have you had it tested?

Alternately, you can follow the procedure in your Owners Manual to jump start your car from a friends. If it starts, you probably have a failing/failed battery. Replace it and you get off cheap. If it does not, at least you have eliminated a possibility.

Good luck.

I'll give it a go.  I just had it on the charger and it was at 100% charge withing minutes.  Starting at 80% when I first hooked it up.

Hi jdurbin. That's part of the difficulty with modern vehicles. A failed battery can show a high or even full charge, yet have a failed cell. The only way to properly test a battery is with a proper load test. And even most big box stores like AutoZone etc, only do basic battery tests, which can pass a defective battery.

While it does not help you today, you can normally find coupons for a free battery test on the Ford Owner and Lincoln Owner websites.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.
