2011 MKZ Sway Bar Bushings

I recently attempted to replace the sway bar bushings on my MKZ, while very difficult I was able to get the passenger side done.  This took a couple hours due to no room in there to get a wrench or ratchet to turn with any leverage.  It was a very slow removal of the nut.  I went over to take care of the driver side and there is some sort of metal bracket that I cannot identify but it will not allow me to get any sort of tool in there to get this done.  I looked up the cost of this online and it was quoted at 1 hour.  I believe that I must be missing something, is there a special tool or something I need to remove to allow for better access to the nuts that I need to remove to get the bracket off?

Thanks all for the help.
