Huhner
Hi all, I am new to the forum and considering getting a 2014 MKZ Hybrid for my recently graduated son.... I have never owned a hybrid before is there anything that I should look out for with the batteries and any gotcha's to consider with that model? In another post they suggested for sure doing a PPI and looking for oil pan leaks, timing chain cover leaks, and extensive wear on lower arm bushings and shocks. Anything else? The ones I am looking at are around 80k miles driven. Thanks for your feedback and input!!
jimflutes
All I can add is that I purchased a 2014h that was the year they changed to a more updated look , I was surprised at how much I liked the car , I had always driven Honda accords EXLs . The combination of a luxury car with great mpg ( 39 - 41 ) is very appealing to me , now it is not as nimble as the Accord but the MKZ has a sophisticated feel to it and you are not aped to speed around with it which I would think is a big plus with your son in it . If your son is ready to step up as a mature young man this may make him feel that role better . I had a 2014 and liked so much I now have a 2016 , good luck to you both . 1984Poke
I had a 2013 MKZ Hybrid and liked it so much that I got a 2019 MKZ Hybrid a year ago. If the car checks out well from a qualified mechanic then I’d recommend going for it with one proviso—do some research on the topic of expected battery life. Given that the Z you’re considering has 80K miles, it would be worth your while to check that out.

They said the battery has a 8 year warranty or 100k warranty on it. So you are right with 80k of miles on it that could be a problem. jimflutes
I just read that some states mandate a hybrid battery be warrant to 150k , you may live in one of those states , other alternatives are rebuilt battery or buying one from a wrecked car , some batteries have gone to 200k , so take this in consideration for barging valve . rubyinla
So I have way too much time on my hands.... One search led to another and for those of you that are curious about the big lump of a battery in our trunk, here it is. The guy has a series of videos about the inverter and other components as well. jimflutes
Oh yea it was supposed to be bargaining . The video on the hybrid battery gave me a great respect for the minds that put these complicated things together , and to think this is only a bridge to future means of transportation .
