Smart Phone

Recommended Posts

OK, So I've been busy with things to do.... ?

Now I'm looking at what smart phone to get.

I have a Google Pixel 3 XL now, and it works great... but it's almost 2 years old and I know there are better phones out there (or due)

What do you have and how well does it work with your MKZ (I'm hoping for those that have a 2017 or later) , maybe even 3.3 or 3.4 if you have it.

I'm looking at the soon to get released  OnePlus 8 Pro ...

I'm looking at how it works with the car, not so much how the phone works.  While I'm open to the iPhone, I'm kinda invested in Android.  ?

If you're happy with Android, stick with it.  I'm happy with Android, my last 3 phones were Samsung S5, S7, and currently S9+.  I almost upgraded to the S20, but my phone still kicks a$$, and see no reason to replace the phone.  I've never had any bluetooth issues with any of my Samsung phones, on any vehicles.  And the cameras are pretty awesome too.

But you need to browse on tech (Android) forums for the best advice on the new phones, you may find one or two members here with an opinion, when you should really hear both the good and bad of any new phone that you may consider.  Bluetooth issues would be discussed on those forums.  Theres just a bunch of good phones nowadays, happy hunting.

After being a long time Samsung user, I left the Note8 series for the One Plus 7 Pro. The Note10 was a disappointment to me, and expensive. Absolutely love the phone. If you order it off OnePlus' site, you perhaps can avoid paying tax too if bought unlocked.

The 8 Pro is awesome to consider. I like how less cluttered the Oxygen OS is compared to Samsung.

I might be the minority but I like the pop up camera on the 7 Pro since it lets the entire screen be free of notches or hole punch cameras. I never liked "selfies" anyway. 8 Pro goes back to hole camera. I'm not upgrading from my 7 Pro though until 5G is truly mainstream for daily use over 4G LTE, and they start releasing the "invisible front cameras" that is supposed to not interfere with the phone's front screen.

The 90 hz screen was a big selling point factor, and the 8 Pro goes up to 120 hz. Going from 60 hz to 120 hz can be quite the treat. It's not that big going from 90 hz to 120 hz however, so again another reason why I stay with my 7 Pro.

The 8 Pro sold out fast online. But they'll have more coming. Can highly recommend OnePlus. It worked perfectly fine in my Sync 3 days as well, especially since I still use Waze and PowerAmp a lot.

I have little more time being at home, working from home - means more time browsing online.

With two college students owning IPhones means I can spare myself a Motorola G6?

May be it's time for an upgrade.

I do not have hands-on experience on any of the new phones(except for browsing for the specs) so I can't really comment on functionality.

What I can offer is price point comparison based on my research.

I've looked at the Samsung S20 5G. It is now at $799 at Bestbuy. However, if you purchase through Samsung unlocked (12G/128GB) + discount code, it comes down to $743.xx - all inclusive/shipped.

The OnePlus 8 is a comparable model to the S20 - both are 5G, both are great phones. Depending on the configuration, it will be $699 / $799 at OnePlus. I haven't seen any carrier pricing yet.

Yeah, 5G is not quite there yet. Your 4G LTE phones will still remain functional for a very long - even way beyond you start to itch for an upgrade.

If you do not mind a "less newer" phone, the OnePlus 7Pro has great features. It is now a whopping $450 at TMobile.

Kewl... Lots of good news and reviews...

From what I've seen the OnePlus 7 Pro, it's almost the same price right now as the 8 ... I'm sure that will change once the 8 is out.

I have Verizon, and I understand it works with it, even though Vzn does not sell it (that I know of)

I just read that Vzn will sell it... so I'll wait... if I was to buy an unlocked , 5G might not be supported.... I'd rather not chance it.  ?

I don't 'need' 5G, but if it's there I'll use it.  Just like I didn't 'need' a camera 10 years ago... but now I love having it
