2014/13 MKZ wheels and tinting

Recommended Posts

Has anyone attempted to get their 13/14 MKZ tinted? How much did you get it done for?

My local tint guy says he will do the four side windows for $ 170 (ceramic tint i think) and will not do the rear window as he does not have the right tools to reach the narrow bottom where the rear glass meets the back.

Also, I am thinking of switching out the wheels on my car to 20" (preferably concave shaped). Any good recommendations?

I had mine tinted by the guy who does it for the dealer. My son works at the dealer and knows him so he comes to my home on his own time (Saturday) and does it my garage.  He charges me only $140 and has no trouble with the back window.  Obviously, since he does it for the Lincoln dealer.  This price is a favor since we've had so many cars done by him.  I do give him $150, though.  No retail tinter is going to do it for that price, however.  I think it'll be at least twice that.

I'll post some pix when I get a chance.

holy crap $400! wow I had mine done for $200. that was llumar tint with lifetime warranty. rear doors and back window 5% limo, front doors 20% and a limo strip across top of windshield. My guy does great work. He brings the tint right to the top of the windows so it looks factory. Anyone in Los Angeles area "the California tint shop" in chatsworth.

Just got mine tinted here in California for $350. I wish I could go to where yall are at for those prices lol. I did one level above the basic so it was $50 extra. It's got lifetime warranty even for fading which is what sold me. For me it's well worth it, makes my 2015 Ruby red mkz look a whole lot sharper.

I've had all of my cars' windows tinted for years. I'm not going to my 2017.  As of January 2017, NYS inspection stations are required to check windows on every car.  The car now cannot pass inspection unless at least 70% of the light can pass through.  The dealer said they stopped doing tints now because people were complaining that they couldn't even tell they had a tint with the legal limit.

I'm not going to bother doing my 2017. It's not worth doing. The combination of the Magnetic Gray exterior with the black (Sport) interior makes the windows look darker anyway.

70%?!? That is practically nothing. CT is 35%, and that is noticeable, but not too dark. Why did NYS change to be so strict?

"70% of the light can pass through"  -- does that mean 30% tint?    or have I got that wrong?

I believe 30% tint is allowable here in southern Ontario. Noticeable but that's about it.

The law has always been on the books but police wouldn't stop you just for that.  There had to be some other infraction they pulled you over for.  Then they could cite you for tints.  Now they've made it part of the annual safety inspection instead of leaving it to police enforcement.

That's right.  It means 30%. Not worth it.
