scn101
If you have two programmed admin fobs you can program a 3rd as a spare, which is what I did on my 2014 Fusion and now wanted to do for my 2019 MKZ. This way if you lose or break a fob, you only have to buy a new one (~$80 online or ebay) and program it. No dealership programming fees. If you only have one admin fob, you must get your new fob programmed at the dealer. This is for your security as you don't want a person with one of your fobs to be able to make a duplicate, i.e. a valet. I received my 3rd FOB and attempted to program it using the steps in the owner's manual for my 2019 MKZ. Using my original two fobs I was always able to get the vehicle to display the factory keypad code on the left cluster display but it always failed to program the new fob. I followed the steps over and over again. Then I started to adjust the length of time I left the accessory key on (manual says 5 secs, push button start without depressing the brake), etc. Finally, after about 20+ attempts I got a programming successful message on the left cluster display. Not sure exactly why but I think that attempt I used exactly 5 seconds with accessory on and swapped fobs out super fast. Anyways, moral of the story is to keep trying. Also, I turned my cell phone off completely so the car wouldn't Bluetooth to it, not sure if that made a difference. The new fob did have a different p/n but worked. I believe the FCC ID must match exactly. Below are the details in case it helps someone. Original FOBs: HP5T-15K601-BF FCC: M3M-A2C940780 New FOB: JL7T-15K301-BB FCC: M3N-A2C940780 From the owner's manual:
fusionff
I added the 3rd key fob back when I just bought my car. I had a bunch of failed attempts on programming my 3rd key, the procedure needs to be done within 30 seconds. I tried a bunch of times and was getting nowhere, then I finally got it to work by using string on the FOBs to speed up the process (I read that trick on another Lincoln forum). It worked on the 1st try with the strings attached. My 3rd key & FOB were $85, add $30 to cut the key blade (Which will vary between locksmiths equipped to cut it). scn101
scn101
I think speed was the key, pardon the pun! KenZ
