TomV
I've had my car a couple months now and I've been trying to track down a noise. When I first approach the car, and sometimes when I lock it back up, and the engine is off I hear a noise under the hood towards the front end. It sort of sounds like something plastic has dropped or fallen. I'm thinking it could be something motorized like the adaptive head lamps or the active grill shutters? I've looked in the grill, but have never actually seen the shutters closed before. So I don't even know if they are working. I might need to examine that the shutter motor is mounted correctly. Has anyone else ever noticed this type of noise noise?
TomV
Probably not the shutters, as they were wide open when I walked up today. Plus the car wasn’t running. Sounds more towards front on passenger side. Oh yeah, it’s a 2.0T engine also.
drolds1
Not me. IDK what you're hearing, but it's not the active headlamps nor the active grille shutters. Both systems go through a self-check, but only when the vehicle is started. The shutters close, then open and subsequently respond to conditions, i.e., ambient temperature, cooling needs and road speed. The headlights track right and back to straight ahead. Neither system is going to do anything when you approach the car. When you approach the car with the fob on your person, you'll get the "Lincoln Welcome" when you get within about 6 feet. Perhaps it a relay that operates the lights and puddle lamps but that's just a guess. I've never heard it on my car.
TomV
Yeah, I'm wondering if the cabin air filter has a trap door that opens and closes with entry and exit of the vehicle. It sounds like something actuation is happening. My first oil change will be scheduled next week. I'll ask the dealer to take a look at it then. No. There's no trap door on the cabin filter that opens and closes. The access panel for the filter is held in place by 2 screws and side tabs as well. See pics here. TomV
Thanks, that’s good to know.
TomV
Well I may have finally figured it out. What I'm hearing may be the "audible" door lock option. It doesn't actually sound like traditional door lock actuators, that's why I created this thread. But I disabled that feature this morning and I don't recall hearing it when I went out for lunch. On a side note, when I was at the local Lincoln Dealer, I checked out another brand new MKz and it made the same noise.
TomV
Well, I'm not certain the entry/exit noise I hear is the audible door lock option. I'm sure it's something stupid, but hope to eventually figure it out because it has me stumped.
