New 2019 MKZ Reserve I owner

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I just purchased a new magnetic gray 2019 MKZ Reserve I with the 2.0T FWD. I hang onto my cars for about 10 yrs, having come from a 2000 Contour SVT and a 2009 Fusion SEL.

This Lincoln seems to be a much more substantial vehicle than my prior. Larger in size, but feels solid with so many features. Hopefully I don't spend the next 10 yrs troubleshooting issues... but whatever I do I'll post here for reference and hopefully help others.

A few things I noticed about the Lincoln that weren't documented in the literature.

- Aluminum hood
- Aluminum front fenders
- Active grill shutters
- Asymmetrical lower grill valance

I've already installed STEEDA jacking rails and strut tower brace designed for the Fusions. The jacking rails bolted on easy. The strut tower brace required moving the hood strut rod as detailed my someone on the STEEDA website in the reviews section.

I also have a 3M Invisible Mask kit to install and will pick up some winter wheels/tires later this fall.

Thanks for the add to this forum! - Tom V.

Hi Tom V.  Welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum and congratulations on your new MKZ! We have an excellent group of members here, who are very knowledgeable and helpful. And by the way...you have excellent taste in cars! ?

Of course, I would naturally feel that way, since I factory ordered mine and our cars are twins! I have had my 2018 Magnetic Gray Reserve with Drivers Package for just over a year now. The only difference being I have the 3.0T AWD version.  It is a great car and I think you will love it. Plus, there are a few others with Magnetic Gray, Drivers Package MKZ's here on the forum.

As an FYI, the asymmetric lower valance is for some of the Adaptive Cruise Control electronics and hardware. And just curious: Where did you access the information concerning our front fenders being aluminum? That would be news to me, since as far as I know they are steel (but I've been wrong before...lol).

Again, welcome and good luck with your new MKZ!

The car looks/is fantastic . So you are going to install the clear bra yourself , I do have the 3M on my 2016 installed by certified installers , hood , bumper ,wheel arches ,lights and mirror for $1050 , had it on the 13 and now 16 , always looks good never a problem ..  Please tells us how it was installing this yourself , did you ever do this before ? The best of luck with the new wheels !

Thanks guys!

I was checking body panels with a magnet and it didn't stick to the front fenders.

Yes, I will installing the 3M myself. I ordered a pre-cut kit online (approx $340) and it installs similarly to Window Tint. Alcohol and Soapy solutions and squeegee. I did my Fusion and wife's Escape. I'm not a PRO, but they seem to turn out good enough that no one has ever noticed anything wrong. The kits usually come with direction and there are videos online.

Hi Tom. You are correct! It is good to learn something new every day!

In fact, after reading your last post I called the Lincoln Certified body shop that does repairs for the Dealership where I purchased my MKZ, and asked the owner (I was wondering if the hood was composite or aluminum). He said yes, the hood and front fenders are aluminum. And parts of the trunk lid are also not steel.

Thanks for the information and good luck.

@TomV  Nice ride!  I like the idea of the jacking rails.  Once installed, can you jack up one side of the car using a floor jack in the middle of the rail (say under where the front and rear doors meet) so you can then insert a jack stand at the front and end of the rail?  And then repeat the same on the other side to get the car up on four jack stands?  Thanks.
