C8 Corvette's Reveal

It's been a hot topic ever since the reveal on a variety of other automotive forums. So, I'm curious if any MKZ/Zephyr owners have any interest on the new generation. Just making a side discussion since forums is otherwise light with traffic and discussion.

I am in favor for the C8. I did really like the C7, and Corvette in general has been the only GM vehicle I ever liked and expect to own one day (and soon with this generation). But with C8, its finally more different from the Mustang, Camaro, Charger, and Challenger. I know some people preferred it to stay Front Engine RWD based, but that really is more favorable to muscle-like car play than true sports car. C8 future performance will make it strong against even some of the most expensive exotic mid engine cars, while holding a competitive price point. I don't really think "You get what you pay for" will hold much here either, so its not like a C8 will be a bucket of rattling bolts compared to a Ferrari, McLaren, or Lamborghini. Once cars start getting too expensive, there are diminishing returns and its just becoming more about bragging rights with allocation scarcity instead.

I say GM did win best reveal in terms of all 2020 models. The C8 has generated far more hype, both positive and negative, than any other car for 2020. GT500, Supra, etc. pale in comparison. Love it, indifferent, or hate it, the C8 definitely shook up the automotive world quite a bit for just a reveal! Its even going to get a RHD version to expand the market options even.

I look forward to checking one out, though will wait for actual buying in 2021 as I do want to see the Z06 version come forth, and of course watch for whatever launch year problems the C8 may suffer from.

Yet I am still waiting for a CD6 MKZ/Zephyr and Continental to come forth if Lincoln doesn't kill it of course. A Corvette won't be my daily driver, but my secondary high performance joy rider, so I'm not counting Lincoln out! Being 31 years old and a Millennial whose been an old soul type, I can't wait to enjoy these cars! A daily CD6 MKZ/Zephyr and C8 Corvette Z06 is perhaps my dream duo at this time.

HI Zalvern.  Just my personal opinions here: I've never particularly cared for Corvettes. Just did not like the looks much. Always been a Mustang GT guy.

However, I do like the looks of the new C8 as compared to any of its predecessors. I like the front and profile styling much better than the older models. The only styling I find a little weak is the rear end. But even that I find to be better than the C7 and earlier models.

Again, just my personal opinion.

Hope you can get both your dream duos!

By all means, a differing opinion or negative criticism is welcome. Never will there be "the perfect ride".

I'll agree with you on the rear end. Unless one hates the C8 rear completely,  itll take some time to grow into accepting. I look at the box like end and square exhausts...not in love, but I dont hate it either. Just need to adapt in acceptance for what makes the C8 what it is.

It makes me think of the MKZ with its front end change. Pre-2017 I didn't care for at all. Although now when I see them driving around, you just know it's a Lincoln signature.

I do somehow hope C8 gains good reception one reviewers get their hands on it. I want the Mustang GT to get something like this too, which clearly was ignored for the Shelby and EcoBoost for 2020. Even then the offerings aren't completely enticing over yesteryear.

2021 Mustang GT could steal me back if Ford does it real justice for my 1st coupe car slot. Not holding my breath though. Maybe if Mach 1 happens.

The C8 is a great performance value for track day use. But I'm too attached to Mustangs. First car was a '67 convertible 289. Ran an SVT Cobra track car for ten years and made a lot of friends around the midwest. I do regret not making a play for a 2005-06 Ford GT. Got to hot lap one for a weekend at Ford's expense and the values have only gone up.

I think from a looks perspective this is a big improvement for the Corvette. It will be interesting to see how it sells. The starting price is rather enticing, however, I am curious what comes with it and how desirable options start to increase the cost.

I may check this out next year when my lease is over. But right now I’m really wanting to see the Mach E.

I'm just shocked at how the ultimate Boomer car has become the anti Boomer car. It's getting so much backlash from Vette purists I lone it. ?

It's not like they weren't anticipating it.  We've been hearing about a mid-engine Corvette for the last 30+ years.

I was one of the people convinced it would never happen, given GM's legendary stubbornness and refusal to change. Feels ok to be proved wrong this time.

Found this playbook guide which informs on the options and accessories: https://www.corvetteblogger.com/docs/2020corvettestingrayplaybook.pdf

Pricing is TBD. This is only for the every day Stingray level, aka the affordable trim.

I never was a purist for anything, and welcome the challenge known as change and adaption. I will never be loyal to one brand only, nor dismiss it a chance to change like this. Though perhaps that is my filthy millennial mind at work. ?

But for being a millennial, my student loans are paid off, live on cash and use credit for incentives only (not a penny of interest for them!). Year long Emergency savings secured and 401k + Roth IRA are maxed in contributions. Now I can rightfully pay and play with these big boy toys. Achieved all a year later after my MKZ's demise. Miss that car, but got a better horizon now.

My future C8 can wait since I rather dump my junk DCT Focus for a better daily, and wait for 2021 MKZ/Continental announcement. C8 is not something I want to expose to daily driver life and maintenance.
