HotRodLinc
Insurance companies today want to install a monitor chips in our cars to monitor how fast we drive, how many hard stops we make, what hour we drive, how many miles and many more big brother items. This is sick. It's plugged into the diagnostic port under the dash. I refuse to do it. Is there anyone else dealing with this. I am 72 ears old, with no teenage drivers and drive no more than about 10,000 miles a year. Anyone else dealing with this? Can they void our warranties with this crap
jmcgliss
Do they want to, or are just saying that you have to?
Blackhawk
My car insurance offers a "potential" discount if I use it but certainly not mandatory. This has nothing to do with Lincoln so there should be no risk to your warranty.

This is offered by some insurance companies, and is strictly voluntary. If you agree to do it, you can lower your rates if your driving habits fit your insurance company guidelines. But again, it is strictly voluntary. So if you don't want to, just don't. It has nothing to do with and does not affect the vehicle warranty. Good luck. Lincoln and Ford use to void warranties for plug in's to their computer enhancements.

I 'am talking about a $1200 rising to $2200. and more. Yes, before you suggest speeding tickets and accidents I have none. Thank you. Yes, if you want the discount for using the monitor, you need to use the monitor. 3 hours ago, HotRodLinc said: The sensor plugs into the Lincoln computer port. Lincoln and Ford use to void warranties for plug in's to their computer enhancements. It is simply a reader and does not void or alter your warranty coverage in anyway. That is the correct answer. Using a "tuner" or other device which alters your ECM/PCM programming would cause warranty issues. The insurance company readers do not change the prgramming. If you do not want to believe us (after asking us), then contact Ford so they can soothe your concerns. 2 hours ago, HotRodLinc said: Insurance rates in my part of Florida have almost doubled this year. You can use the insurance company monitor and get the discounts offered with its use, or you can not use it. It is your choice. Good luck. HoitRodLinc, Being in Florida also, I have not seen my rates increase beyond normal COLI. My wife and I have both nice recent year vehicles including full coverage and our rates have been steady over the last 5-8 years. I am in North Central Fl and have no explanation of why you are seeing otherwise

I would also recommend you contact your insurance agent or company directly to ask why your rates have almost doubled. Insurance companies can make mistakes and perhaps you are being charged for an accident or tickets you did not have, or there was some other unauthorized change made to your policy which you are not aware of. It has happened to others. Let us know how you make out and good luck. Edited June 20, 2019 by bbf2530 Correct typo.
Blackhawk
Also shop around, the last 2 companies I was with both offered great premiums at first and then raised the premiums over 3 years to what I had come from. Just switched again to save 800 a year and will play the game again in another couple years. 17MKZ3.0TT

While I had always hoped that being a long-term customer would get you the best rates from your insurance company - that just doesn't seem to be the case in today's world. I have had to switch car insurance companies about every 3 years to keep any semblance of a reasonable rate. 17MKZ3.0TT
jmcgliss
Insurance companies can make mistakes, and some companies access credit reports to influence your rates. So, mixing you up with someone with the same name could have an effect on your premiums. We caught an error on our policy (can't remember what it was) but I made them prove that the head office had corrected our profile.
