Tire size question

Recommended Posts

I have a 2015 with factory 19” rims and 245 40r19 tires. Looking for a little more sidewall and softer ride and was wondering if 245 45r19 would fit or will the added height be a problem?

Hello SSK!

Have you had good luck with the change of tire size? I'd like to do it as well!

I'm looking into these ones for my 2017 Lincoln MKZ Reserve 3.0 FWD:

Any other suggestion?

Thank you!

Alex.

HI Alex. I have used both the Pilot Sport A/S 3 (predecessor to the Pilot Sport A/S 3+), and Pilot Sport A/S 3+ on my 2007 Lincoln MKZ.  The Pilot Sport A/S 3's gave me ~54,000 miles before I replaced them with the A/S 3+'s about 6,000-7,000 miles ago. I was/am very happy with them and would highly recommend them.

My 2018 MKZ Reserve 3.0T AWD still has the factory Michelin Primacy MXM4's with ~5,000 miles on them.

A belated welcome to the Lincoln MKZ Forum. ?

Additionally, to answer your question in the other thread about going to a 245/45-20 wheel/tire combo: I would recommend against it. It will be a tight fit, with issues.

You should be able to use a 245/45-19 tire on your current wheels with no issues.

And as a reminder, please do not double post questions. Makes it hard for other forum members to help when questions, answers and information are in multiple places.

Good luck.

so, are you guys saying the 19 OEM rims and tires give a rough ride? I was considering buying some 19" OEM take offs, to replace my current OEM 18s. I don't want too if the ride is significantly rougher. BTW, I used 'GENERAL' tires this last time, absolutely wonderful tires so far (almost 15k miles on them).

Hi kbuicker.  Well, apples to apples, anytime you go to a larger wheel diameter with a lower tire sidewall ratio, the ride will be rougher.  More wheel and less sidewall means less tire cushioning.

Whether it is "significantly rougher" is a personal opinion. I don't find my 2018 MKZ with 245/40-19 tires/wheels to be "significantly rougher" than my 2007 MKZ with 225/50-17 tires/wheels. However, the roads are relatively good here and I am careful when they are not. With both cars.

Keep us updated and good luck.

I certainly agree with staying with the smaller diameter (larger sidewall) tire for a softer ride... been there, done that and hated every ride. Now when I buy a car that is one of the first things I check
